Worship Oct. 2020

The theme of our 2020 Covenant Campaign comes from 1 Corinthians 13 which is most often read at weddings, not with stewardship.

1 Corinthians 13:13 Contemporary English Version
For now there are faith, hope, and love. But of these three, the greatest is love.

Why would 1 Corinthians 13:13 be chosen as a stewardship theme? Because the attitude we have when we give matters. Generosity is a matter of the heart and attitude. A good steward (or a good giver) has a faithful, hopeful, and loving heart. Faithfulness-not size, status, wealth, or heritage is God's measurement for Christians and congregations. God does not care how many people attend or how long the church has been here. God cares about our faithfulness. Faithfulness is God's measurement for how well Slash is fulfilling its calling.  So, the question is, are we being faithful as we share our gifts and talents?

Generosity is a faithful act of discipleship that shows others that we have hope and share our resources to make God's love real in our community and the world. That is how God changes the world. The apostle Paul unpacks love's characteristics: patience and kindness, a lack of envy, boasting, arrogance, edginess, resentment, and bullying.
Our Generosity through the 2021 covenant campaign is a loving response that demonstrates the love Paul describes. Gifts made in gratitude for God's love for us and celebrating a unity in Christ that surpasses the difficulties that seem to work so hard to divide us.

When we give faithfully, hopefully, and lovingly by sharing our time, our God-given talents, and our financial resources we are making the Love of God real to the world.

En Agape',
Rev. Michael

Throughout our faith journey, we are extended several invitations. From the invitation to make our confession of faith to the invitation to care for a sick neighbor, to the invitation to bring food to the next church event, our life in a community of faith is full of invitations.

We can be agents of grace if we are generous in our response to the invitations that are presented to us. Our faithful financial stewardship and the sharing of our time and talents are ways we are invited to respond to Christ's invitation. Our generosity funds the mission and ministry that we are deploying as a sign that God's Kingdom is among us. We have begun an intentional reflection titled Faithful, Hopeful, Loving as a preparation for determining our investment in the 2021 Ministry Plan for Slash Christian Church.

There are two copies on the page so you may keep one for your records.

Thanks for your support!

Thanksgiving Special Offering

From the very beginnings of the movement, Disciples have founded institutions of higher learning, encouraging students in their intellectual pursuits. The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is still committed to higher education.

On November 15th and 22nd, Disciples churches across the US and Canada will collect the Thanksgiving offering. In the midst of national and global challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, our higher education institutions are facing unprecedented challenges and need our support now, more than ever. Even as they work diligently to ensure safe and healthy learning environments, the financial realities faced by many of our schools is adding additional stress to students, faculty and staff.

Why The Star?

We are all deeply disappointed that our 2020 presentation of "Why the Star?" must be postponed because of the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic. Our semi-annual outdoor advent Christmas pageant will be scheduled in December of 2021 because of the uncertainty of the pandemic.
