City of Glendale Announces Limited Re-Opening of City Services!
Yucca District E-News for...
September 17, 2020

Good afternoon Yucca Residents,

This week is full of announcements! After several months and reopening facilities only to close them again, some City of Glendale Facilities are set to reopen on Thursday, October 1. Of course, there are new guidelines, maximum group size, and social distancing requirements, but it will be nice to have these facilities back open! Reopening information
can be found here.

More good news in the return to some normalcy, yesterday the Chicago White Sox announced their 2021 Spring Training schedule at Camelback Ranch - Glendale. The Sox will open their 15-game spring campaign at home against the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday, February 21, 2021.

#ShopGlendaleAZ  is a new initiative to promote and encourage support for Glendale businesses during these challenging times. This campaign supplements the ongoing efforts of the Chamber of Commerce and the City toward building a stronger and growing community while keeping Glendale proactive. Glendale residents and visitors are encouraged to shop locally and follow the required steps to be entered in a weekly drawing. Winners will be announced live every Monday until January 2021 on the Glendale Chamber's Facebook and Instagram page. For more information, please call the Glendale Chamber at (623) 937-4754.

Glendale PD was out again this past Sunday in their continuing effort to enforce traffic laws and keep Glendale safe. Just last Sunday, there were 14 arrests, 52 violations, and 8 vehicle tows. GPD posted this video to their Facebook page to show the community what they are dealing with.

Glendale teenager Alicia Navarro has been missing for one year now. Alicia is a high-functioning Autistic
14-year-old who left her home during the early morning hours of 9-15-19. She left a note for her parents that she was leaving but would return. She has since not shown up to school or contacted known friends or family. If you have any information, please contact Glendale Police at 623-930-3000.

Don't forget these important dates for voting in this year's election. The deadline to register to vote is October 5, 2020. You MUST be registered by that day to vote in the November 3rd General Election.

Wishing everyone a great and healthy weekend!

CITY AND DISTRICT INFORMATION
City of Glendale Facilities to begin Reopening
October 1, 2020

Safety First

Those using public amenities will still need to abide by the social distancing measures that are in place, as well as making sure groups are not larger than 10 people. Our city park rangers and code enforcement officers will be monitoring these locations regularly and will be responsible for breaking up large groups and making sure people keep proper distance between themselves. Our employees will make sure that anyone in violation is informed about what measures need to be in place for them to be able to continue to use any of our public amenities. Visitors will also notice more frequent cleanings at all facilities. Employees will find thermometer testing stations and increased availability of hand sanitizer, as many of them return to the office after telecommuting during the pandemic.

Foothills Recreation & Aquatics Center

October 1, the City will open the Foothills Aquatics Center, at a moderate benchmark, to current members only. Aquatics will be open Tuesday - Saturday for lap swim only from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Temperature checks will take place on all members as they enter the facility and masks will be required, except when in the water. The Aquatics Center will not be open to outside rentals at this time. Click here for full details.

Ramada /Special Use /Sports Field Reservations

On Thursday, October 1, the City will open reservations to outside organizations for gatherings and programs. This includes areas such as the Glendale Youth Sports Complex, Foothills Sports Complex, Paseo Sports Complex, Thunderbird Paseo Linear Park, Sahuaro Ranch Sports Complex and park ramadas. Use of these amenities will be by reservation only and the applicant will be responsible for following all CDC and AZDHS guidelines. For more information, click here.

Glendale Adult Center
While the Adult Center will remain closed at this time, the city continues to plan a reopening of the Glendale Adult Center while monitoring state benchmarks for the spread of COVID-19.
2020 Household Hazardous Waste Collection

RESERVE YOUR SPOT TODAY!

The City of Glendale's annual Fall Household Hazardous Waste collection (HHW) is approaching. Residents are provided the opportunity to have items such as paints, pesticides and old chemicals removed from their home at no additional cost. By keeping such chemicals out of the City's solid waste stream, it reduces the chance of a chemical reaction that might cause a fire, lessens the environmental risk at the landfill and reduces the potential for an exposure to citizens and city staff.

Residents may call customer service at 623-930-2660 to schedule an appointment, staring September 21 through October 16.

The collection of such HHW will be collected October 12 through October 30 for those residents who scheduled an appointment.

Please visit the Household Hazardous Waste website page for more information.

PLEASE NOTE: You must schedule an appointment in order to participate.
