UCPS teachers look ahead to the new year and new opportunities
As the new school year begins, it brings about hope and optimism to students, teachers, and staff alike. Despite the changes the pandemic brought to last year‘s school year, Union County Public Schools teachers have a positive outlook.

As we welcome back more than 41,000 students for in-person learning, teachers are excited to see their students, explore new opportunities and take teaching to a new level. During the first few days of school, we spoke to a few teachers who explained how they plan to navigate this year.

New feature added on UCPS buses to better ensure student and driver safety
Several Union County Public Schools (UCPS) buses will have a slightly different look this new school year. About 30 buses will have extended stop arms to assist in the safety of students, bus drivers, and motorists. Extended stop arms

The new safety feature was placed on select buses this past May, ahead of summer learning camp. Traditional school bus stop arms extend to about 21 inches from the bus (a little less than two feet), the new extended stop arms reach 79 inches from the bus (about six and a half feet) into the lane of oncoming traffic. The feature also has an additional stop sign and blinking lights.

ICYMI: New Atrium Health partnership to help promote the safety of student athletes
To ensure residents of Union County have greater access to high quality, nationally recognized services of Atrium Health Musculoskeletal Institute (MSKI), Union County Public Schools (UCPS) and Atrium Health have agreed to a 10-year partnership to provide a variety of sports medicine services and health and wellness programs, through embedded certified athletic trainers and associated physician and provider coverage.

On July 1, MSKI began expanding its exclusive athletic training offerings to 10 public high schools for all sports, as well as basketball and cheerleading for the nine public middle schools with athletic programs. The goal of the partnership is to further enhance the athletic, student, and school staff experience and to promote the safety of student-athletes.
