Join us on August 25th for part 2 of a 4 part series.

Homegoing Community Conversation 2: Beyond Victim and Oppressor: Complicity and Agency in Racism

In this online session, we will explore the role of complicity, resistance, and agency in Homegoing. This session focuses on the intergenerational psychological, economic, legal, and social impact of slavery on Americans. Slavery and legal segregation are often simplified as “victims” and “oppressors” (or the ‘good guys’ & ‘bad guys’), yet Yaa Gyasi shares the complexities and nuances of racial hierarchies. We’ll explore the role of power among people who are oppressed.

Tiffany Taylor Smith, Assistant Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion, and Dr. Leslie Picca, Professor of Sociology, from the University of Dayton will co-facilitate this conversation with Drew Wichterman, Adult Services Librarian, from the Tipp City Public Library.
This event was made possible by the American Library Association: Libraries Transforming Communities Grant, Tipp Foundation, and Tippecanoe Educational Endowment.
A Zoom link will be sent to you a few days before the event.

Registration is required.
Library Closed for Labor Day
The Tipp City Public Library will be closed on Monday, September 6th in observance of labor day. We will welcome the public back at our regular hours on Tuesday September 7th.
Mask Update
Miami County is now at a level of substantial spread for the COVID-19 Delta Variant. Per CDC recommendations, Tipp City Public Library is now requesting that both vaccinated and un-vaccinated patrons wear masks while inside our library. We will continue to provide masks at our entrances if you don't have one and thank you in advance for continuing to support your local library.
Events Planned for the Whole Family
The Summer Library Club may be over, but there are still some things for children and families to do in the Children’s Department until school resumes. Check out these activities in the Creative Corner.
Runaway Letters Scavenger Hunt
Preschool to elementary children will enjoy this fun contest that helps you brush up on your alphabet skills while you complete this scavenger hunt. Fifteen of the twenty-six letters of the alphabet are hiding in the Children’s Department. Search for the missing neon-colored letters and circle them on the contest sheet. Turn in your contest sheet for a small reward.

Creative Corner for Children-Learning Math Sense
Young children learn best when they are playing an educational game or are actively involved in the learning. Games show math as fun and relevant. Help build positive feelings toward math in your children by trying some of the games we have set out in the Children’s Department. We also have a display of books for reviewing basic math skills with your child.
