Increased calls prompt need for MVFD levy
The Miami Township Board of Trustees will go to the voters on May 4 to ask for approval of a replacement 3.65-mill operating levy for fire and EMS services. The levy, if approved, will generate roughly $2.4 million annually to help fund the township’s portion of the Miami Valley Fire District, a shared fire and EMS service with the city of Miamisburg.

The Miami Valley Fire District provides services to a 35-square mile combined area with a residential population of more than 50,000. Fire district personnel responded to nearly 9,300 calls for service in 2020, making the district the second busiest fire department in Montgomery County two years running.

The fire district is currently comprised of 67 dedicated men and women who are highly trained and capable of fulfilling the mission of the MVFD. Over the last nine years, we have seen calls for service continue to increase:

No texting, talking on the phone... no fiddling with the radio! Keep your eye on the road at all times and stay focused. Distracted driving is no joke!
April is Child Abuse Awareness Month
According to Care House, 13 children are reported abused or neglected in Montgomery County each day.

The MTPD is teaming up with Dayton Children's and Care House to change that. We planted a pinwheel garden in front of the police department that represents the need and our commitment to protect children. Remember, if you see something, say something.

Carli Goode - Planning Technician
Our Community Development Department has a new team member. Carli Goode is taking on the newly created position of planning technician/inspector. What better time to meet Carli than now:

Carli is a native Daytonian. She attended The Ohio State University receiving a Bachelor of Science and a master’s degree in city and regional planning. Carli originally chose city planning because she enjoys architecture but on a larger city scale.

She is very passionate about environmental planning, such as increasing implementation of bike and pedestrian trails, multi-modal transportation and the conservation of parks and outdoor areas.

Carli previously assisted the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission with annual trail counts in central Ohio. In her new job at Miami Township as planning technician/inspector, she will be reviewing zoning permits, enforcing zoning codes and assisting with some planning projects.

In her spare time, Carli enjoys hiking, snow skiing and long distance running. She is currently training for the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon.
