August's Featured Illustrator:
Sean Gallagher
Sean Gallagher has always been a doodler. During his undergraduate and graduate years, he was a cartoonist for the student newspapers at Wabash College and the University of Southern California.
While attempting to be a journalist, where he worked as a crime reporter in Hong Kong and covered the student transportation industry in the Los Angeles area, he fashioned himself a painter and put on a few gallery shows to spotlight his pieces.
For the last five years he’s been a freelance graphic designer and illustrator, producing artwork for grade school workbooks and kids' books, among other things. Since joining the SCBWI more than a year ago, Sean doodles every day as well as writing and illustrating his own children’s stories to hone his voice and style and hopefully gain representation for his work.
On top of his freelance work, he is currently a lead artist for a Charleston-based non-profit that is revitalizing a local park with colorful murals created by a dozen or so lowcountry artists.
If you’d like to see more of his work, you can visit his website skgcreative.com.

Some Inspiring News From the World!
|
BEEP, BEEP!
After being stuck inside for months, some students in DeLand, FL were welcomed back to school with a unique atmosphere.
Patricia Dovi, 35, and Kim Martin, 51, of St. Barnabas Episcopal School transformed their students' desks into little jeeps! They each feature a three-sided plastic divider (the windows) that serve both to protect students and make them smile. Not only are these making national headlines, but they also represent a safe space for students to remove their masks.
While this is far from normal, this is a perfect example of how to make the best of an uncomfortable situation.
