Spring Preview - What's New, What's Next?

ARTS EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY ARTS

March is Arts Education Month and also a celebration of World Theatre Day.

Theater teaches creativity, self-expression, use of imagination, and critical thinking skills. The arts are beneficial at home, in schools, and the community.

“During my 30 years at Americans for the Arts, I have had the great privilege to visit and learn about a different community nearly every week. While they differ vastly from one another, there is one common strength I have observed: the arts have made a profound impact on the health of each community.”
~ Robert L. Lynch, President, Americans for the Arts

Fauquier Community Theatre presents SUPERHEROES!

Directed by Katy Benko Miner, the comedy Superheroes is performed by the students of the FCT PACE (Performing Arts Continuing Education) Program. Youth ages 8 to 13 take on multiple roles including Batman and Robin, Superman, Spiderman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and more! The play will be streamed online this spring and is produced by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc.

Synopsis: For superheroes, saving the world is tough, but the time spent away from work is tougher. The Hulk has to do taxes, a crime-fighting sidekick joins a support group, and Batman goes stir-crazy without enough criminals to take down. SUPERHEROES is a funny, fast-paced series of vignettes that explores how the caped crusaders deal with life in street clothes.

Many thanks to Katy for running the FCT PACE classes this school year for both Acting and Musical Theatre. Her expertise, as well as mentoring these youth, has been greatly appreciated.

Director Katy Benko Miner is a highly decorated vocalist and experienced vocal trainer. A two-time World Champion Vocalist at the World Championship of Performing Arts and a two-time WAMMIE Award Winner, Katy began singing professionally at the age of 16 and has shared the stage with such performers as Brad Paisley, Glen Campbell, Trace Adkins and Kenny Rogers. She has performed at Jiffy Lube Live, The Birchmere, Jammin’ Java, the Patriot Center, and dozens of other venues.
