ROOTED IN FAITH, TRADITION, AND ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Happy Easter!

It’s hard to believe spring is already sprung. There appears to be a rebirth of energy in the building. Of course, spring fever hits our students hardest. Our teachers are excited, especially as vaccinations come available. And most of all, we know Lent is soon to end with the Resurrection of our Lord and our own spiritual rebirth. This all comes as we approach our Spring/Easter break this week.

We have accomplished much in the three-quarters of the year-to-date, we still have much to do. In the near term, we have our Celebrate the Knight Gala on April 10th. This virtual event is a key fundraiser for tuition assistance. Our community “gathers” and celebrates the school – and raises funds, not just for Borgia High School, but for other members in our community that depend on financial aid to continue their pursuit of a Catholic education for their family. The benefit of a Virtual Gala is anyone can join us, and anyone can bid on items and donate to help our school community.

Seniors are wrapping up their high school careers and preparing for the next steps in their journey. We’ve started planning for next year – incoming freshmen came in with their parents to meet with teachers, coaches, students, and club moderators. Our rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors have already signed up for their classes next year. The circle of Borgia life continues, thanks in no small part to our alumni's generous support.

We are excited by the arrival of our new President, Matt Schutte, in July. He will bring a wealth of experience to our Advancement efforts and help us spread the good news that is Borgia High School. I do admit I am a little jealous of Matt. As spring arrives and our communities open up bit by bit from COVID, Matt will get to meet face to face with the many people that make this such a great community. Even interim Presidents can be reborn with the energy of spring and blessings of Easter.

Now is a time to say thank you to all our families and alums who have hung with us through this trying year. Even though it is not over, we are grateful for your patience, support, and generosity to provide the Borgia experience for our students. The excitement will build this spring and through the summer for a close-to-normal school opening next fall. Even though we must still be patient for a short while longer, I pray that Christ’s Resurrection creates that excitement of rebirth in your families and in our school.

I wish you Christ’s blessings this Easter,
Bernie
CELEBRATE THE KNIGHT GALA
APRIL 10, 2021
Our virtual Gala will begin with Mass, celebrated by Fr. Mike Boehm, at
6 p.m., followed by our hour-long, live program at 7 p.m. You may register to bid, free of charge, by clicking on any of the logos below. We hope that you will join us for the fun of this year's Gala!
Our annual Gala, Celebrate the Knight, is going virtual on Saturday, April 10, 2021. Each year, the Borgia community comes together to celebrate our school while raising funds for our mission. Although we cannot be together in person this year, we can still come together virtually as a community to show our support. We have digital festivities planned, including an online auction, inspiring giving opportunities, a live stream event, and more!

Over 62% of our students receive tuition assistance as a result of this event, so it is imperative that everyone participates in some way to make this successful. We love offering items from our local businesses! Please consider patronizing them first, but also check out our wish list of items at Amazon here. If you own a business or your employer is willing to be a sponsor or donor, please let us know! Supplies and other specialty items are needed as well. Thank you to all of our wonderful supporters. Our event continues to be successful year after year because of you!

FUND-A-NEED
This year's Fund A Need focuses on the technological aspect of our vibrant and growing community. Our students today live in a digital world, and we must be prepared to continue providing this for our students. Our Fund A Need this year includes four main areas:

TV Broadcast Studio Replacement/Upgrades
For over 20 years, The Knightly News Live! program has provided news, sports, and essential information four mornings a week to our students. The show builds a strong sense of community as news from the sports field, stage, band, academic programs, and other essential information are conveyed to students, teachers, and staff.

However, the current infrastructure is not keeping up. The modulator, which distributes the signal to classrooms and offices, is over 20 years old, and parts and support are no longer available. In addition, our current wiring only allows students to view an analog picture of poor resolution and quality. The overall broadcast system itself is aged, challenging to maintain, and must be upgraded to better align with our mission of fostering technologically prepared, life-long learners.

Live-stream Upgrades
Live streaming has become a vital part of connecting our school with the community at large. This has never been more true than in 2020, where over 2,000 people were able to tune in and view last year's student award ceremony and where an impressive 7,500 people were able to view last Fall's annual Turkey Tournament.

Be that as it may, our current live-stream system is out of date. We need a more user-friendly and portable system, which is paramount to continuing this outreach to our community. With these upgrades, the Borgia mission can reach the entire state of Missouri, all over our nation, and into the whole world.

Theater Projection Replacement
Not only is our theater a fantastic venue for plays and live performances, but it is also used by many of our classes and community gatherings. Many of these assemblies require visual presentations.

The current screen used for these presentations is worn and torn, making it difficult to reflect an upgraded image. Also, the projector used for these presentations desperately needs to be replaced. The current one cannot deliver a vibrant picture that is necessary to see throughout the entire theater.
Replacing this equipment would allow us to offer the audio-visual experience that our students and visitors deserve.

Robotics Upgrades
Our STEM lab is growing! We want to offer our engineering and computer design students more robust programs by purchasing the next generation of micro-controllers. Replacing the current Cortex models with Vex V-5 controllers for our bots will allow us to offer our students the most up-to-date technology.

To contribute to our Fund A Need project this year, please tune in to our hour-long, live program beginning at 7 p.m. on April 10. Registration is free!

Planned Giving
Planned giving, often called “legacy planning,” enables you to make larger gifts supporting St. Francis Borgia Regional High School than you likely ever thought possible. While some planned gifts can provide you with a lifetime income, others use estate and tax planning techniques to maximize your gift and/or minimize your estate's impact.

We are pleased to have the Roman Catholic Foundation of Eastern Missouri as our planned giving partner.

The Foundation’s mission is to inspire giving and connect donors to Catholic ministries, sustaining the local Church for future generations. The Foundation assists donors in making planned gifts from their assets to the Catholic parishes, schools, and ministries of their choice.
