SolSmart Technical Assistance Program Expansion

DOE recently announced an expansion of its SolSmart program, which offers expert technical assistance at no cost to local governments to adopt nationally recognized best practices to advance solar energy adoption. Since its inception in 2016, SolSmart has helped 500 local governments across the US and their residents by reducing the soft costs of going solar, which span five criteria categories: permitting and inspection, planning and zoning, government operations, community engagement, and market development. DOE has now announced funding for an additional 500 designees by 2027 and has established new priorities around support for disadvantaged and rural communities. DOE also extended its designation criteria to include solar plus battery storage, codes and standards, innovative financing, and data collection and metrics.

See SolSmart’s Website to better understand what they offer. If towns are wondering what to do to support clean energy in their towns, this is a good place to start and a great way to connect to other towns with similar goals
