THE TRUMPETER - February 2023

RWOP Newsletter Editor: Joan Lesko, RWOP VP Communications, [email protected]

President's Message - Sherrie Hanna

February holds special meanings for two events. First, February 14th we celebrate Valentine's Day. It is also Arizona's Statehood Day. Arizona is known as the "Grand Canyon State" and also as the "Sweetheart State" as Arizona obtained statehood on February 14, 1912. This year, Arizona is celebrating its' 111th Birthday! Happy Birthday Arizona!

As we prepare for our February luncheon, I hope that many of you will try out our new online reservation system. We are no longer using Pay Pal and have switched to "Square" for our online luncheon reservations and membership applications. Other RWOP services are also available on our website.

A HUGE THANK YOU to Joan Lesko, Sue Tatar and Ann Atkinson for all their hard work in coordinating this huge change to our reservation system!!!

If many of you use our reservations system online for our luncheons, it will help speed up check-in for our members leaving them more time to shop our jewelry counter, socialize, visit our Caring for American monthly charity table and check-out our candidate's tables to talk to the candidates in person and sign their petitions to help them get on the ballot.

Our January luncheon was a big success! I received many compliments for our program featuring our Yavapai County Recorder, Michelle Burchill and Yavapai County Supervisor, District 5, Mary Mallory. Charlie Arnold, from The Wheelhouse Recreation and Sports Complex, also gave an inspiring update on The Wheelhouse facility. Chad DeVries and Tim Mitzel also motivated us with their work for the Northern Arizona Association of Christian Athletes. All three of these gentlemen have donated so much time and energy in support of the youth in our communities. Many of you have asked me to publish the websites to donate to both of these organizations.

To donate to The Wheelhouse go to supportthewheelhouse.com.

For donations to the Northern Arizona Association of Christian Athletes go to my.fca.org.

It was especially important for our RWOP membership to hear from several of the candidates that were seeking election as our new AzGOP Chairman. Blake Masters was so very grateful to have an opportunity to "Thank" our RWOP members for supporting him. Thank you to Judy Blake, RWOP's 1st VP of Programs for her efforts in putting together an uplifting January program!

Many of our RWOP members were State Committeemen who traveled to Phoenix on Saturday, January 28th to vote for new leadership for the AzGOP. Over 2,000 State Committeemen from all over our State participated in this event and Yavapai County was very well represented.

The following are the new AzGOP officers elected: Jeff DeWit: Chairman, Christine Ong Cothrun: Secretary, and Elijah Norton: Treasurer.

Jeff DeWitt, AzGOP Chairman

Christine Ong Cothrun,

AzGOP Secretary

Elijah Norton, AzGOP Treasurer

For Yavapai County, our newly elected Members at Large for CD2 are Lois Fruhwirth, RWOP Member & Immediate Past Chairman of YavGOP along with Steve Zipperman, an Associate member of RWOP.

To view pictures of the AzGOP State Meeting, click here:

AzGOP's Election Integrity Champion Volunteer of the Year was Kristin Baumgartner, an RWOP and YavGOP member!

CONGRATULATIONS to all these individuals in their newly elected positions, their willingness to step up and serve and for their recognition for service in our beloved Republican Party!

RWOP's Community Outreach project for January was an overwhelming success! Thank you to all our RWOP members who donated coats and blankets. Thank you also to Founding Fathers, Lazy G Brewhouse and the Prescott Chamber of Commerce for letting us place drop boxes at their establishments to help collect the coats and blankets. Over 1,100 pounds of coats and blankets were collected to be distributed to the following Prescott charities: DAV, St. Vincent de Paul, US Vets, Catholic Charities and both men's and women's shelters through-out Prescott.

Linda Bray, our RWOP Community Outreach Chair along with Jody Aloine, Barbara Orloff, Linda Rogers and Linda Williams, members of her team, worked tirelessly collecting, sorting and grouping the coats and blankets and delivering them. THANK YOU LADIES for all your hard work! RWOP's efforts to support these and other charities with our Community Outreach programs is greatly appreciated by our community.

On Thursday, February 23rd, RWOP has chartered a custom bus from Master's Touch Bus Lines to take our members to Phoenix to participate in the Arizona March for Life event. Click Here to signup online

Now, more than ever, we need to show our support for protecting the most vulnerable among us, the unborn. Please see Jill Martin, RWOP's 5th VP of Education to sign up for this very worthwhile cause!

I also want to thank the six individuals who brought their worn torn American Flags to our luncheon to be disposed of properly. Disposing of our American Flags in a proper way is an important part of protocol when handling and respecting our American Flag. We will continue to have a container just inside the main entrance to the Ballroom if there are others that want to bring their worn American Flags for disposal. Thank you to Judi Kay Williams and her hospitality hostesses who are helping with this worthwhile endeavor.

Gratitude also goes out to Judi Kay and her hostesses for placing the Blue Line American Flags on our luncheon tables. RWOP continues to support our Law Enforcement Agencies and the men and women who wear the Badge.

Please SAVE THE DATE of Wednesday, May 17, 2023 for our Big Event with Charlie Kirk. Ticket sales will soon be available. We will be giving a special window of time for RWOP members to purchase tickets before ticket sales are opened up to the public. And now an extra surprise - opening for Charlie Kirk, our main speaker, will be Patriot Barbie!! Go to patriotbarbie.com to find out about this amazing Patriot. This will be a great event so plan on spending the evening of Wednesday, May 17th with RWOP members and like-minded Patriots!

RWOP continues to be an important part of our beautiful City of Prescott, Yavapai County and State of Arizona as we work to get Republicans elected to office and promote Republican values. I am honored to be your President and represent you. While I was attending the AzGOP State Party elections on Saturday, everyone that has heard of RWOP has nothing but praise for our organization and the outstanding reputation we maintain. Thank you for all your support of me and our great organization. You, as a member of RWOP, are a great reflection of our club!

Regards,

Sherrie Hanna

Caring for America - Nancy Grigas

Our charity of the month is

Honor Flight Arizona

https://honorflightaz.org/

Our charity of the month for February is a true favorite of RWOP members, Honor Flight Arizona. The mission of this organization is to pay homage to our WWII, Cold War, Korean War and Vietnam War veterans who served in the Armed Forces. They do this by providing a no-cost 3-day trip to Washington DC so the vets can visit the memorials built in honor of them. One Honor flight Guardian said his trip was “one of the top 5 most memorable experiences in his life and military career.” These sentiments are echoed by most vets who have visited their memorials.

Honor Flight also endeavors to educate our youth about the impact of the various wars we have endured, and the freedoms Americans enjoy because of the sacrifices of our veterans.

Please be generous with your donations so that we can send even more veterans on this humbling yet satisfying journey. Stop by the booth in the lobby for more information on how you can help.

"Did you Know...?" Cynthia McSwain

…….how easy it is to listen to podcasts?

Many of us have “smart” phones these days, but if you haven’t discovered podcasts, you might find a new use for that little computer you carry around! A podcast is essentially a stored voice or music file, made available in digital format through a podcast application on your phone, or through a subscription service like Spotify or Amazon Music. Podcasts have exploded in popularity in recent years. Many focus on politics and current events, but there are many other topics as well. I like to listen while doing chores, like dishes or dusting. You can even listen while driving, if your car and your phone have Bluetooth capability.

If you have a later model iPhone, Apple includes a podcast application as part of its standard applications on the device. Mine shows it as a purple “Podcasts” icon with a symbol that looks like a microphone. If you have an Android phone, you can use the search bar. Type in “podcasts” and it should find “Google Podcasts,” which works very similarly to the Apple version.

Once inside your podcast application, there should be another search option. Once you find the one(s) you’d like to listen to, you can add it to your digital library, which means your phone will remember that you like that podcast. You can set it to automatically download new episodes as they’re released, or simply leave them in a list for you to choose from.

Podcast release frequencies can vary. I really like Charlie Kirk’s podcast. Charlie produces fairly short episodes, usually 30-35 minutes, pretty much daily. (Reminder! Charlie will be our speaker at RWOP’s May 17th event at YCPAC…..be sure to hold your calendar!)

“You’re Wrong,” with Mollie Hemingway and David Harsanyi of The Federalist, is often released weekly and lasts about an hour. Dinesh D’Souza generally releases a daily episode every weekday, lasting about 45-50 minutes.

Podcasts usually have advertising, but it’s much less so than terrestrial radio.

If you haven’t already, give it a try and see if you enjoy podcasts!

PETITION RULES CITY OF PRESCOTT ELECTION 2023

Candidates must qualify to be placed on a ballot by collecting signatures.

Only republican party members or independents living within the City of Prescott city limits may sign petitions for candidates who seek the open council seats.

By signing a petition you enable a candidate to collect the number of signatures needed to qualify to have their name placed on a ballot. (You are not obligated to then vote for that candidate).

Openings: One Mayor, Four Council seats.

Legislature Chair - Cathy Messinger

In the House, bills must be introduced in the first 29 days of a regular session and the first 10 days of a special session.

In the Senate, bills must be introduced in the first 22 days of a regular session and the first 10 days of a special session.

In both the House and the Senate, Rules Committee approval is needed to introduce bills after the deadline. Bills may also be pre-filed before the legislative session begins.

The Arizona House and the U.S. House hit the ground running. There are so many bills in the works! I have attached links to a sampling of pending bills for both. Also attached is a link to instructions for Right to Speak. Our Representatives really value your opinion and would love to hear from you.
