Nominations are now open for the 2023 Governor's Awards for Excellence
in the Arts!

Nominations for the awards may include individual New Mexican artists currently working in any discipline who have demonstrated outstanding achievement; individuals who have consistently made significant or distinguished contributions to the arts in New Mexico; or businesses, nonprofits, or foundations with sustained involvement in and support for the arts.
Nominations may come from individuals, organizations, or businesses in New Mexico. Galleries may not nominate artists they represent, and self-nominations will not be accepted.

An enchanting afternoon was had by all on Sunday March 5th as Rutendo Musharu became the 2023 New Mexico Poetry Out Loud champion. Rutendo attends UWC-USA in Montezuma, NM. Thanks to the students, teachers, parents, performers, and volunteers that came together to celebrate poetry.

TourWest is a competitive grant program, supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, that provides subsidies to arts and community organizations for the presentation of touring performers and literary artists within the 13-state WESTAF region. The WESTAF region includes the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawai’i, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, and Pacific jurisdictions (American Samoa, Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), Guam). Applications are reviewed by a panel of industry leaders on artistic and cultural merit, presentation of programs to underserved and/or culturally diverse audiences, quality of the outreach activities, engagement and collaboration (including block booking), and thoroughness of the project’s planning.

The City of Albuquerque Public Art Program announces a unique opportunity to partner artists with scientists and innovators from the Sandia Science & Technology Park (SS&TP) resident companies to develop a large-scale, site specific, and technology-based public art work for the area. Founded in 1998, the SS&TP is a 340-acre, master-planned technology community. Associated with Sandia National Laboratories and adjacent to Kirtland Air Force Base, SS&TP resident companies have access to world-class facilities, technologies, scientists, and engineers.

This call is open to qualified artists residing in the United States. Five finalists artists will be selected based on a review of their past public art projects; success of the projects previously undertaken, with emphasis on collaboration with stakeholders and commissioning organizations; and aesthetic, as well as scientific methods integrated into public works of art. The finalists will travel to Albuquerque, NM to meet SS&TP partner companies and to form artist/company teams to develop preliminary concept proposals. Artists must partner with SS&TP partner companies. New Mexico artists will be given a standardized local preference of 5% in all scoring methods.

Total Project Budget: $350,000 (up to $50,000 is for the design development among up to 5 finalists teams and no less than $300,000 for the all-inclusive artwork design, design approval, fabrication, and installation) No less than 50% of the project funds shall be for the artist’s portion of the project.
