According to the United Way of Denton County 2017 Community Needs Assessment, "families with female head of household (no spouse present), with children less than 18 years of age had the highest poverty rates, at least twice that of all other family types.”

Did you know that 42% of our Partner Families have a female head of household? These women are hardworking, oftentimes single mothers, working multiple jobs to make ends meet and offer the best life for their kids. With housing costs skyrocketing, leaving many with little income to afford basic necessities, it has become nearly impossible for low-income, renting families to save up enough money to purchase their own home in Denton County.

But, through Habitat's Homeownership Program, these families' dreams of homeownership become a reality. By investing 300-400 "sweat equity" hours on their home and making affordable monthly mortgage payments with zero equivalent interest, our families work hard to build and maintain their new Habitat homes, knowing their children will live in safety and security - for generations to come.
In celebration of Women's History Month, watch this client testimonial video to hear from four of our woman-led Partner Families about the impact that owning a Habitat for Humanity home has had on their lives and families. Watch the video here.
The Walls have been built and raised on the Crawford Family's home! Thanks to our Interfaith Partners for coming out on Saturday, March 5 for this exciting day, to both build this home and to build community together. Members of 10 congregations of different faiths across Denton County are coming together to build this home, share a midday meal, and fellowship with one another, all alongside our 106th Partner Family, the Crawfords.

Here at Habitat Denton County, the core of our mission is to bring people together to build homes, community, and hope. As people of faith, we are called to respond to our neighbors’ needs, acting as God’s hands and feet in service to the world. When we come together to help people build better futures for themselves and their families, we actively participate in doing God’s work in the world. Through your support of this Interfaith Build, we are blessed to be able to do just that.
Mark your calendars! Our next Financial Education class is coming up on Saturday, March 26 at 10:00 AM online via Zoom. All members of the community interested in preparing their finances for homeownership are welcome to attend, so please spread the word!

This course will explain consumer installment loans and the benefits of owning versus renting. The seminar, titled "Loan to Own," will be presented online by Jairo Torres, PNC Mortgage Loan Officer at PNC Bank.

Whether they partner with Habitat or not, we believe everyone deserves a decent place to call home. We want to do everything possible to prepare those in our community for the large endeavor homeownership, so we encourage all to attend these free courses.

Please RSVP by March 24 to Nancy Rodriguez at NancyRod@hfhdentoncounty.org or (940) 484-5006, ext. 9002.
"As we enter the season of Lent, we are blessed with this wonderful opportunity to reflect and celebrate God’s unfathomable love for us. We are given time for prayer and solitude. We are encouraged to leave our comfort zone and exercise self-discipline through fasting. We are invited to do good and love more."

Follow along us as we move through Habitat for Humanity's weekly Lent devotions, so that we may "remember that we are serving alongside a faithful God who will never fail us."
