Dear St. Martin Community,
Yesterday signaled the beginning of the 6-week Lenten season. The ashes received are a reminder that we are from dust and to dust we shall return. The cross of ashes on our forehead represents mortality and penance. We are called to reflect upon our conscience and seek reconciliation with God.
How do we do this? We focus our efforts throughout the Lenten season on how we treat one another, as if each person was God in disguise. The Corporal Works of Mercy is a prime model that responds to the basic needs of humanity. The seven Corporal Works of Mercy include: feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, shelter the homeless, visit the sick, visit the prisoners, bury the dead, and give alms to the poor.
Throughout the season of Lent, we encourage students to complete Corporal Works of Mercy in a kid-friendly way. One way to do so is to donate money to their class's MCA Missions globe. This money is used to do almost all of these works of Mercy. Teachers have a Missions globe on their prayer tables decorated in the Lenten color purple. For more information, click here to view the USCCB's Corporal Works of Mercy web page.
Oh Lord,
Please help me this day.
Give me eyes to see how you are at work in every one of my circumstances. Lord, give me perseverance to increase my understanding of you.
Give me a hunger to read your Word and to seek to know you more each day. Just as the dawn comes with its exact precision, help me to trust that You will also move in my life, in your perfect timing and in your beautiful way.
In your name I pray, amen.
Lenten Blessings,
Jennifer Miller, Principal

32nd Annual Walkathon -99 Pledges!
|
|
On March 23, we will walk the track - Olympic style. Each class will be representing a country. Our new platform, 99Pledges, is an easy and exciting way to raise money for our Walkathon. Families should have received an email invitation to login to their child's personal website last week. The letter invites friends and family to sponsor them in the walk for SMA. (see letter below)
Each student is asked to raise at least $50 to earn a free Walkathon shirt, which was designed by SMA 8th graders, Andrew Samarkos and Addie Tayco. We are excited to see our kids’ progress as we work together as a community toward our goals!

Dear Friends and Family,
I am lacing up my sneakers next month and doing my best at my school's (SMA's) Walkathon. I'm excited to be a part of it because this event raises money so me and my classmates can enjoy a field with brand new turf and shade during hot or rainy days. We are also raising funds for a school marquee so everyone knows about the fabulous things we are doing at my school.
I'm asking for sponsors to help me reach my fundraising goal. Will you help by making a donation? Each student gets a free walkathon shirt once at least $50 has been raised.
Thank you for all of your support and encouragement!
We are fundraising for a digital marquee for the front of the school to keep everyone up-to-date on the fabulous things going on at SMA, shaded basketball/volleyball courts, and a new and improved field (turf).

The Fifth Grade class engaged in a Science experiment by mixing two or more substances to see if they resulted in the formation of a new substance. The students discerned if a new substance was formed and recorded their answers. Students then justified their explanation by describing their claim-evidence and reasoning in their Science journals.

Sr. Ava Rodriguez spoke to the students about the Mission Childhood Association. Sr. Eva provided SMA with several resources for Lent, including a beautiful Missionary Rosary for each student, a bookmark and Lenten alms boxes. Students may return the Lenten Alms boxes by April 3, 2023. A check was also presented to Sr. Ava for $250 from the "Jeans for Jesus" fundraiser.
