Ricardo Osmondo Francis headlines the first Community Artists’ Collective’s ARTrepreneurship Workshop Series Saturday, October 17, afternoon via ZOOM.
The Houston native is a visual artist/curator and the Gallery Director of LeonidesArts NY, an artist run multimedia visual arts organization dedicated to presenting contemporary art exhibitions and public art projects that reflect a variety of distinct themes, disciplines and cultural experiences outside of the conventional art gallery tenet. Francis will share critical aspects of his personal artistic journey to help guide emerging artists in their career paths and development.
Rafael Cuello, visual artist, curator and digital design virtuoso, is moderating the workshop. Jean Sonderand, New York City based filmmaker and Director of Archive Culture, will serve as videographer for this event.
Join the workshop at 3 p.m. EDT and 2 p.m. CDT on ZOOM. Pre-register on Eventbrite or on The Collective’s Facebook page.

An October without a quilt show would be like a Halloween without pumpkins and trick or treaters.
Five talented artists are satisfying our quilt cravings this year with their original creations at The Collective. The exhibition, which continues through October 31, is a biennial collaboration with CERCL (Center for Engaged Research and Collaborative Learning at Rice University). The exhibition is free to visit, but because of the COVID-19 restrictions, attendance must be by appointment.
Leslie Abrams, Patricia Henderson, PM Neist, Lanecia Rouse and Trevon Latin have created colorful quilted tapestries and wearable pieces for display and for sale. Each artist has created unique textile stories and images through their own personal methods of quilt-making techniques.

Learn about the healing power of
the Arts during an educational and entertainment filled evening designed
to help us cope with all the new
health and economic challenges
created by coronavirus.
During the telethon evening, mental health experts will offer insights and coping mechanisms to enable individuals and families to better manage the “new normal.” An eclectic line-up of entertainment--ranging from dance, instrumental and vocal music, spoken word and comedy—will showcase the joy of the arts.
Telethon viewers can access the program online on November 7. The Collective will provide a link upon online registration for this special event. Registration will be available through Eventbrite prior to the event beginning October 6.

The Jubilee Quilt Circle, a program of The Collective since the 1990s, responded to a call for help to keep Houstonians safe. Since mid-September a small group of volunteers have washed, cut, stitched, pressed, counted and stacked fabric masks. Thanks go to Ronah Brown, Beverly Ward, Hastle Murray, Leslie Abrams, Mike Wicklander, Miles Payne and Michelle Barnes for the successful completion and delivery of 1,000 cloth masks to Gulf Coast Community Services Association. Pictured from left are Michelle Barnes, Leslie Abrams and Mike Wicklander as they get ready to box the masks for delivery. Photo by J. Miles Payne.
