Please Help ROAR
Clear Its Shelter!

The ROAR Donofrio Family Animal Shelter is continuing to experience a large influx of kittens. Many are arriving with their Mother cats too. This is on top of the rescue cats and dogs that we already have at the shelter.

Our amazing foster families and other volunteers are helping ROAR care for our large increase in animals. However, we need your help.

ROAR is teaming up again with NBCUniversal Local and Telemundo-owned stations through the Clear The Shelters 2021 pet adoption campaign. This year's "Adopt and Donate" initiative will run from August 23 through September 19. Every donation to ROAR helps support the housing, veterinary care, feeding, training and placement of neglected and needy dogs and cats.

Virtual pet adoptions are returning for the 2021 campaign through partner WeRescue. The WeRescue app enables users to locate adoptable pets in their area, submit their adoption applications, and ask questions directly to shelters. The pet adoption campaign will again feature online donations through fundraising partner Greater Good Charities

How you can help support ROAR and our animals during the campaign:

  • Adopt a rescue dog or cat. We have many loving dogs, puppies, cats and kittens just waiting to meet you. They come in all different sizes, colors and ages and have their own unique personalities. You can see our available pets here. If you are interested in any of our rescues, please call us at 203-438-0158 for appointments. The shelter is open for calls: Mon.-Fri., 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; Thurs. and Fri., 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.; Sat., 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; and Sun., 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.
  • Donate to ROAR through "The Clear the Shelters Fund."
Donate directly to our shelter through Greater Good Charities. Visit the donation site during the campaign at ClearTheSheltersFund.org, which will also be accessible via ClearTheShelters.com. There will be matching grants and other prizing during the donation window, which opens on August 23 and closes on September 19th. YOUR donations during this timeframe qualify ROAR to receive some of this additional funding.
  •  Spread the word. Please help us spread the word by telling your friends and family why you believe in ROAR and encourage them to support us too! #ClearTheShelters!

Your support and generosity allows ROAR to continue to save cats and dogs. But we can't do this without you! Please help be a part of the ROAR Team and the movement to Clear The Shelter!

Remembering Veteran Chuck

ROAR-Ridgefield Operation for Animal Rescue was sad to hear about the recent passing of Veteran Chuck, who was a part of our Pets for Vets - ROAR CT Chapter family. His friends and family are in our thoughts.

"It is with a very heavy heart we say goodbye to an extraordinary Veteran. Chuck Gartland served his country with honor. Over the years I was lucky to get to know him, I learned he did so much more than I knew. After reading his obituary, I realized that I knew only a small fraction of the incredible things Chuck did to give back to his community. Pets for VetsĀ® Roar Ct Chapter was so lucky that Chuck and his wife Leslie let us into their lives to help match him with Charlie.

Charlie was the perfect companion and best friend for Chuck, working with our trainer, Jamie Ianello and partner Jane Morrison. Jamie continued to support Chuck and Charlie when he needed additional help during his. We are grateful for the time we had with Chuck, leaving all those who loved him too soon. The Pets for VetsĀ® family send love and prayers to his family,"  Didi Tulloch Chapter Director, Pets for Vets Roar Ct Chapter.

Pet Profiles!
Badger & Dakota

Badger

Badger is still looking for his forever home! This handsome, laidback boy is only two-years old. He is currently in a foster home with another easy-going kitty. They play together very well and according to his foster mom, he is just a wonderful, loving, sweet cat.

Badger loves hanging out in the window! He can be a bit shy at first but warms up quickly enjoying all the attention you can give him. Badger has a heart condition known as Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy (HOCM). He is currently on a daily medication and will require check-ups to monitor the progression. At the present time, his condition is stable and has absolutely no effect on his personality and calm nature.

Badger is neutered, micro-chipped and up-to-date on vaccinations.

Please call the shelter to learn more information and to schedule an appointment to meet sweet Badger!

Please remember to spay or neuter your cat.
More than 3.2 million cats enter U.S. animal shelters each year (source: ASCPA).

Dakota

Meet Dakota! You can see from the smile on his face that this one-year-old boy is very happy! And just like his buddy Montana isn't from Montana, Dakota is not from South (or North) Dakota. They both arrived at ROAR along with a nice young female dog from deep-in-the-heart-of-Texas. Dakota is now hoping to become a Nutmegger with a loving family in the great state of Connecticut.

Dakota is just over a year old and is an Anatolian Shepherd mix, probably a mix of a lot of things. What's an Anatolian? Well, not Texan but Turkish. The classic color for an Anatolian Shepherd is fawn with a black mask and triangular ears that hang down, check those. Anatolian Shepherds are loyal and highly intelligent dogs, check those too..

Unlike a standard Anatolian Shepherd who can take up nearly the entire couch, Dakota can almost fit in your lap to snuggle. And unlike some boisterous Texans, he is a bit shy. However, ROAR and its volunteers are working with him on this.

Dakota is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations and micro-chipped.

Happy Tails!
Harley

Picking a pet is a big decision. Fact is, when you bring a cat or dog home from ROAR, they may be a part of your family for many years to come. We see lots of visitors come to the shelter with specific requests - they'd like a tabby cat, a long-haired cat, a big dog, a small dog, only to find that the thing that matters most is a good personality and lifestyle match for the pet and owner. They often find out that they don't choose their pet as much as their pet chooses them!

We recently heard from AR, who brought home this little guy, Harley. He checked in with us to let us know that he most certainly has made the right choice.

Thank you to AR for adding Harley to your pack and providing him with a loving forever home, and many thanks to our friends at Blue Buffalo (General Mills) for helping to make Happy Tails like this one possible.

"Hi Everyone,

Just a brief note, to let you know that Harley has been adjusting to his new home beautifully. Notice the blanket, I lined his bed with.

He's been very playful and loving. He's still exploring and getting in to everything. He's using his litter box and eating and drinking very well. No doubt, I made the right choice.

Thank you ROAR!" ~AR
Why Do You Do What You Do for ROAR?

"I've always had a strong connection with dogs and I wanted to volunteer after my 17-year old dog Bingo passed on who was a wonderful companion for a long time. I feel my stress level go way down when I'm with dogs and love trying to figure out what they are communicating to us.
