Regional School Leadership Consortium at KSC News

Twenty-three staff members recently graduated from the newly established Jaffrey-Rindge Leadership Academy, a partnership between the school district and Keene State College.

Participating educators completed five graduate-level college courses throughout the 2019-20 school year, representing a range of grade levels, subject areas, and schools throughout the district.

The Jaffrey-Rindge Leadership Academy was born out of conversations had by the Regional School Leadership Consortium (RSLC), a group of regional superintendents and Keene State College representatives that began meeting in 2017 to develop and expand leadership capacity throughout the region. The Jaffrey-Rindge Leadership Academy is a significant initiative coming out of the RSLC that is creating stronger leadership throughout the district.

If you are interested in learning more about the RSLC for yourself or your school, including Educational Leadership Graduate Programs at KSC, contact Steve Bigaj (sbigaj@keene.edu or 603-358-2782)

Implicit Bias Webinar Series with
Dr. Dottie Morris

Join us this winter to continue to explore implicit bias, the attitudes and stereotypes that affect our understanding, actions, and decisions in an unconscious way. The unconscious aspect is really important and we will learn together how to become aware of it and co-create more inclusiveness.

We are pleased to offer this professional learning series at NO COST. Webinars will be recorded and available on the KSC Southwest Center website.

Winter celebrations in schools are hard. Do you do nothing? Everything? At the heart of all winter celebrations is celebration of life and light in the darkest time of the year, and we can co-create from there. Audience: K-12 educators, including classroom teachers, specials teachers, paraprofessionals, and administrators. Parents too!

A Time of Healing: Martin Luther King's Beloved Community in our Classrooms and Schools

Wednesday, January 6, 2020
4:00-5:00 pm

Dr. Martin Luther King wrote of creating a Beloved Community based on justice, equal opportunity, and love of one another. Using his concept as a case study, we will explore how to truly co-create, with our students, our own beloved communities in our classrooms and schools.

Dr. Dottie Morris, PhD, is Associate Vice President for Diversity and Equity at Keene State College. She provides support and direction to the Executive, Academic, Student Affairs, Advancement and Finance and Planning divisions of the college as the institution works to fulfill its commitment to diversity and multiculturalism.
Brain-Based Approaches to
Managing Overwhelming Stress
Webinar Series With Dr. Cassie Yackley
We will be offering three webinars by Dr. Cassie Yackley this winter and spring, completing the series, Brain-Based Approaches to Managing Overwhelming Stress. They will be offered once a month in January, February and March, at a cost of $25 each.

January: Regulation is the Root of Reflection. Regulation refers to our capacity to manage stress and to remain calm; allowing us to not be overwhelmed by our emotions and to continue to process cognitive information. A regulated arousal state also allows us to connect with others and to benefit from co-regulation processes.

February: Relationship-Building and Belonging: Capitalizing on the “Flock” Response. Explore the fundamental role that relationships play in the management of stress. Participants will learn strategies for attunement and relationship-building in these circumstances, including those that can be done through a virtual connection.

March: Transcending Crisis and Trauma: How Meaning-Making Facilitates Healing. Stress and adversity are part of the human condition and thus cannot be avoided. However, the sense we make of those experiences is critical to growth and healing.

Stay tuned for dates and registration information!
