Message From the Chapter President

Happy New Year Everyone!

I hope you all made it through the holidays safe, healthy and happy. I took some time “away” from the office over the break, refreshing my body and mind. I am excited for what 2021 brings and could not think of a better group of women to take this journey with.
We kicked this year off with a wonderful chapter meeting on January 5th featuring guest speaker Cindy Boyum (see more in the meeting recap).
I look forward to spending this year continuing to learn from you all while supporting an amazing board that brings you new and unique professional development opportunities. We strive to create an environment that supports our community, supports one another, and allows us to grow personally and professionally.
This year, I encourage you to use your networks and bring in women to EWI that you know could benefit. EWI Corporate has relaunched the C3 Program, this time with new incentives. This year, Chapters that have successful Chapter-to-Chapter referrals will receive marketing funds to be used for any and all recruitment activities, like new print marketing, paid social posts, guest meeting fees, and more. For more details, see the R&R information further down in the newsletter. Tap into your networks, do you know of women in your firms in other cities that could benefit? Do you know of women in areas that a chapter does not currently reach that could benefit? EWI grows because of these connections. Let’s put them to use! Something I have found interesting to view each month is the National Today calendar. Here I learn of all the amazing and sometimes very strange things we celebrate each month. So, for January take time to celebrate science, your cats (MEOW), your alcoholic beverages, food, love and connections, Sleep (my favorite), Mind- Body wellness and so much more. Enjoy National Nothing Day on January 16th
I close with words from Corporate President, Kristi Emmons. She shares tips on how to ensure you are successful in reaching your goals with a "Get To" attitude in 2021:
1. Always Do What You Say You Will
2. Tell the Truth Even When It's Hard to Do
3. Don't Give Up
4. Be Strong of Character, Living with Dignity and Grace
5. Be Respectful and Courteous of Others; Even (Especially) in Difficult Situations
6. Own Your Mistakes. Learn From Them. Fix Them.
7. Protect Others When They Need It
8. Choose the Hard Right Over the Easy Wrong
9. Be True to YOU and Love Yourself First
10. Help Others to Become Better Than You. Why? Because We Are Better Together!!

I look forward to seeing you all at our February meeting where we continue to focus on our personal wellbeing, mentally and physically.

A Note from our EWI Corporate President:
The world has changed a lot over the past six months, including COVID-19, economic fallout and now, civil unrest. I realize that each of these situations have had differing levels of impact on individuals across our organization and country. I would like to express my empathy and support. My hope is that each of us will recall and uphold our Values as we move forward with advancing our mission. As I have said many times, Values are of utmost importance. We will continue to strive for excellence as an inclusive organization that celebrates diversity and each member for their invaluable contributions.
We will get through this challenging time as a TEAM supporting each other and focusing on serving our members. We truly have an opportunity to have a lasting positive impact on individuals and our community at large. We can be a difference maker! Please say a prayer in your faith for our country and for EWI.
My heart is heavy.

The Handmaid's Tale
(Now an award winning Hulu series)

In Margaret Atwood’s dystopian future, environmental disasters and declining birthrates have led to a Second American Civil War. The result is the rise of the Republic of Gilead, a totalitarian regime that enforces rigid social roles and enslaves the few remaining fertile women. Offred is one of these, a Handmaid bound to produce children for one of Gilead’s commanders. Deprived of her husband, her child, her freedom, and even her own name, Offred clings to her memories and her will to survive. At once a scathing satire, an ominous warning, and a tour de force of narrative suspense, The Handmaid’s Tale is a modern classic
