Thank you for joining us for this year’s legislative breakfast!

Each year, Envision Utah meets with Utah lawmakers over breakfast during the legislative session to ensure they understand and rely on the Your Utah, Your Future Vision. This year, Envision Utah CEO Ari Bruening, Senate President Stuart Adams, and Speaker Brad Wilson spoke about a couple of the top issues impacting Utahns today, including:

  • The need to improve disaster resilience statewide. Utah is due for a major earthquake which could completely devastate our quality of life. That’s why, in partnership with the Utah Seismic Safety Commission, Envision Utah has worked to identify a few key strategies to improve our state’s resiliency, including retrofitting URM buildings, including schools, and investing in seismic improvements for the four major aqueducts that bring water to the Wasatch Front.

  • More than ever before, Utahns are worried about growth. So Envision Utah and other partners are working on Guiding Our Growth: a statewide conversation about growth to help Utahns understand the effects of our growth decisions and empower us to own our future. Thank you to everyone who joined us for making the morning such a success! And a special thank you to our stakeholders, board members, legislatures, and other Utahns for your continual support in making Utah a beautiful, prosperous, healthy, and neighborly state!

The Globe and Mail

The pandemic brought a flock of home buyers to Utah who were seeking the outdoor recreational space and lighter COVID regulations that Utah offered. It accelerated the growth this state was already experiencing. As a result, housing became less affordable. "A study released last year by Envision Utah... showed for the first time a greater number of people who believe growth will make the state worse, compared with those who believe the continued expansion will bring change for the better."

Deseret News

Pamela Atkinson, one of Envision Utah's founding board members, was honored on February 24th, 2023 by Gov. Spencer Cox for her lifelong service to poverty and homelessness in Utah.

The governor signed a declaration which read, "Pamela Atkinson has devoted her life to serving others, donating countless hours to personally provide people in need with bedding, clothing, food, shelter, and medical care." Miss Atkinson currently resides on Envision Utah's Executive Committee.

Herald Extra

As Utah grows the administration of Gov. Spencer Cox is spearheading a campaign to get a handle on the expansion, in partnership with Envision Utah. As Envision Utah's President and CEO Ari Bruening sees it, the aim of the Guiding our Growth effort — spearheaded by the Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget — is to come up with strategies to accommodate growth “that maintain the qualify of life we all enjoy.”
