Jeff's Jottings

The month of October brings with it a change in seasons, and the unveiling of vibrant colours at Camp and throughout Ontario. October also presents us with an opportunity to give thanks and to reflect. And, while this year has challenged us all like no other, we remain thankful.
  • We are thankful for our community of campers, families, and Camp friends. The conversations we've had with you, the notes that you've sent us, and the comments you've shared on social media have kept us buoyed and made us only more excited (if that's even possible!) for next Summer.

  • We are thankful for the 300+ families that supported Camp by joining the Wenonah Champions Circle in the Spring. You helped us ensure the magic of the Camp experience will be shared with generations of future Wenonah campers.

  • We are thankful for our staff team and alumni. During an unprecedented Summer, so many stepped up to support Wenonah through online programming, through our sustainability campaign, or through simple and thoughtful notes and encouragement. We are so fortunate to have so many great people in our corner.

  • We are thankful to be part of a vibrant community of Camps and camping professionals. While the loss of Summer Camp was felt by us all, it also presented opportunities for collaboration and learning that will make the Summer Camp experience in Ontario that much safer in 2021.

  • We are thankful for the health of our families and friends. The last seven months have reminded us all of what is truly important in our lives, and are especially grateful for those who are dear to us.

With Thanksgiving Weekend in Canada only a few days away, we wish you a great long weekend.

Our New Mailing Address

Last Fall, we made the decision to close our Burlington Office and move to a remote office setup.

Members of our full time staff team live in Toronto, Guelph, and Ancaster. Technology allows us to connect easily with our team virtually and with families by email and phone, and we realized the need of a physical office space wasn't as important as it once was.

The COVID-19 pandemic delayed our plans to officially close our Burlington Office for a few months. However, as of October 1 we officially transitioned to a virtual office model.

Please note our new mailing address:
PO Box 81240 Fiddlers Green
Ancaster, ON  L9G 4X2
Canada

Looking to reach us by phone or email? No need to update your contacts - our phone number (905-631-2849) and email address ([email protected]) remain unchanged.

Throughout the Fall, our virtual office hours remain Monday through Thursday from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm.
People News

Our team is busy! We are excited to share some news about members of the Wenonah Management Team, and to celebrate some singular accomplishments:
  • Jeff, in his role as President of the Ontario Camps Association (OCA), remains active providing leadership to the OCA Board and playing a key role in the Association's efforts to support 450+ Ontario camps throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Jeff's term as OCA President expires at the end of the year but, of note, he will stay active with the OCA's COVID-19 Task Force and will be the Co-Chair for the 2021 and 2022 OCA Conferences (Canada's largest camping professional development event).
  • Jeff's leadership to the camping world extends well beyond Ontario. Beginning this month, Jeff assumes the role of Vice-President of the International Camping Fellowship. This marks Jeff's 9th term on the ICF Board stretching back to 1997. His new role presents even more opportunities to learn from camping colleagues from around the world in close to 100 countries that recognize the Summer Camp experience.
  • Over the last two years, Senior Director Jennifer "JJ" Jupp has also lent her leadership to the OCA Board. Her contributions have been significant, especially as the Board has navigated the complications of the COVID-19 pandemic. JJ's term on the OCA Board expires at the end of the year and JJ is letting her name stand for a further two years.
  • Director of Health & Wellness Nancy Vandenbergh and Camp Consultant Tom Appleyard provided invaluable insight and contributions to the OCA's COVID-19 Task Force. Wenonah is well-served by these two professionals whose expertise has been recognized across the province. Nancy, as a Nurse Practitioner and Co-Chair of the OCA's Health Committee, has been on the front lines over the last seven months. Tom, an expert in emergency management, co-authored Ontario's pandemic plan.
  • Director of Leadership Eoin "Woody" Wood is currently completing an intensive Occupational Health & Safety Course, and we look forward to incorporating what he learns as we begin planning for the 2021 season.

  • Last, and certainly not least, we want to acknowledge a significant achievement!  Back in February, Director of Operations Fraser "Tito" McOuat was awarded the OCA's Ron & Mickey Johnstone Youth Leadership Award. This annual award is presented to a Camp leader who "demonstrates outstanding leadership of youth through innovation and creativity." Tito made a special trip from his winter home in the Dominican Republic to receive his award in front of family, friends, and a few hundred colleagues at the OCA's Annual Conference. We can't think of a more deserving recipient. Congratulations Tito!
