ROTARY PARK IMPROVEMENTS

Paddle Antrim and the Village of Elk Rapids are pleased to announce that thanks to financial support received from public and private sources the fundraising goals to make planned improvements to Elk Rapids Rotary Park have been achieved.

“This week, we were thrilled and honored to receive a competitive Michigan Spark grant from the Department of Natural Resources,” said Karen Simpson, Village President. “This grant will leverage other grants and gifts, so we can move forward with our nonprofit partner, Paddle Antrim, to implement our community’s vision for Rotary Park and enhance non-motorized connectivity to the water.” >>Read More

"The Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development (MDARD) is now accepting applications for its latest round of value-added grants.

The maximum grant award eligible is $100,000 per proposal. Each project will require a minimum 30 percent match. The value-added proposals will be evaluated through a competitive selection process. Animal Winter Adaptations

Wednesday, February 15, 6:30 pm (2 hrs), live stream through NMC Extended Education

As we humans cozy up to the woodstove and burrow under down comforters, the nonmigratory animals that call the woods and waters of northern Michigan home must endure the brutal cold outside for months. Learn about the fascinating and diverse adaptations that allow our animal neighbors to survive this harsh time of year, including changes in behavior and physiology. Discover the details of how the most well-known method, hibernation, works, and also learn about lesser-known phenomena like honey bees huddling for warmth, frogs manufacturing their own “antifreeze,” and beavers stockpiling food and surviving the winter locked inside their ice-bound lodges.

Register through NMC EE HERE.

Nature Trivia Night

Thursday, February 16th - 6:00 pm (2 hrs), $5 per person

Players will pay upon arriving at Shorts.

Lantern-lit Ski and Snowshoe

Friday, February 17, 2023 - 6:30 to 8:30 pm (2 hrs.), $5 per person

Lantern light reflecting off of freshly fallen snow is a great way to enjoy the forest in winter. Enjoy a self-guided evening ski on GRNA’s groomed ski trails, or snowshoe the boardwalk to the river. We will have a warm campfire at the Center pavilion and the heated building will be open and staffed. Come any time during the 2-hour, self-guided, "open-house" style ski or snowshoe. Bring a flashlight or headlamp. Skis and snowshoes for all ages are available for rent at the Grass River Center for an additional $5 rental fee during the program or bring your own.
