Remember the crocks of sauerkraut and fermented pickles your grandmother and great grandmother always had around? It sounds stinky – and maybe a little scary – but the tangy cabbage and crunchy pickles of your childhood are fermented!
The 2020 Agriculture & Stewardship Seminar Series continues on Sept. 25 with a Home Fermentation Workshop with Alabama Cooperative Extension System Food Safety Specialists Janice Hall & Angela Treadway. Join us for a virtual workshop via Zoom call and create alongside our experts as we learn proper preservation procedures for preparing fermented foods like sauerkraut and Kombucha, a fermented tea.
All registrants will receive a list of materials needed to follow along with this workshop at home. In addition, there are a limited number of fermentation kits, containing the necessary materials, available for $10 each. These kits are available on a first-come, first-serve basis based on registration and interest. Please note during the registration process whether you are interested in reserving a kit, or you would prefer to provide your own materials.
This is a free event, but registration is required. Please click the link below to register!
Home Fermentation is the September installation of the 2020 Agriculture & Stewardship Seminar Series. We are excited to present this event, which was originally scheduled for March 2020 and postponed due to COVID-19-related health and safety concerns. This event is presented in partnership by the Alabama Cooperative Extension System and the Town of Pike Road's Ag & Stewardship Club, an ENHANCE initiative committee.
