Nurturing News
MAY 2022
Greetings!

It's spring and the tree outside of our office is in all its glory. The beauty of the flowering trees around West Hartford is a special gift.

The ups and downs of COVID, the state of the world, even the weather seems to mirror our unsettledness with temperature changes of 30 degrees in 24 hours and blustery winds gusting. And all of these things impact our mental health. May is Mental Health Awareness Month so it seems a good time to remind ourselves of ways to support our own mental and emotional wellness.

Mental Health
In order to put some order into our thoughts, we split apart subjects, we look at things in isolation, we consider them separately. And to a point that is helpful and necessary. However we need to remember that most, if not all, of ourselves and our world is interrelated. So although May is Mental Health Awareness month, much of what we will be suggesting is helpful and essential for your physical health also. We are, after all, holistic creatures.

1) Good nutrition 2) being active 3) restful and adequate sleep 4) hanging with friends 5) meditation 6) time in nature 7) talking with a professional when something is not feeling right.
Not a new list, is it? But a list that we all (myself included) need to be reminded of. It's been and continues to be a time of turmoil in so many aspects of our lives and to meet these challenges we need to have the resiliency reservoirs to pull from. And the stresses mentally and emotionally have been even more heightened over the last couple years.

There is so much about the profession of massage that I am proud of, grateful for and excited about. And it ties in here, as a way to support your mental health. "Go get a massage and relax" , of course sounds pretty good. But the wonderful thing is that the body of research continues to grow. Massage helps relieve anxiety and stress. That is pretty huge! Massage also can improve sleep and alleviate pain ... two physical aspects that impact so much with our mental and emotional health.

So that list again:
1) Good nutrition 2) being active 3) restful and adequate sleep 4) hanging with friends 5) meditation 6) time in nature 7) talking with a professional when something is not feeling right 8) receive massage.

We look forward to seeing you.

Update to our Safety Protocols
We continue to follow CDC guidelines. As such, we are asking that all clients (vaccinated or unvaccinated) wear their mask in the common areas: waiting room, hall, bathroom. (We do have masks should you forget).

Our room cleaning protocols remain the same as in 2020 and we have the air purifiers going including a large one in the waiting room.

Thank you all for your cooperation as we strive to keep everyone safe. If you have any questions be sure to call us or ask your therapist.
