Annual Meeting Registration Now Open!

Mark your calendar now and make plans to attend the first-ever online-only BGAV Annual Meeting! The event, "Deep Roots, Green Shoots," will begin at 6:45 p.m. Monday, November 9, with a special presentation of music videos sent in by many of our churches just before the worship celebration airs at 7:00 p.m.

Highlights of the Monday evening service include a keynote address by N.T. Wright, an original song written and performed for us by Kate Campbell, and John Upton's annual report of how BGAV continues in our mission to renew all things through the power of Christ. The session will conclude by 9:00 p.m. and be followed by another 15 minutes of music videos from our churches.

New this year, our Mission Development team is offering a fun-and-fitness-oriented way to engage with our mission offering: a Mission Run 5K! You can participate as a walker, runner, or a sponsor. Note that this event begins now and continues until the week of the annual meeting, so you'll want to get started! Click here for more information about how to participate.

Our ever-popular breakout sessions are returning in a different way this year: all online, but all created in response to the needs you made us aware of as we've asked for your input. See the list of breakout topics and leaders and preregister for the sessions of your choice (this page will be updated soon with more specific information when it's available).

All sessions (the worship celebration and all breakouts) will be available for later viewing in case you aren't able to attend them as they initially occur. Your registrations will ensure that you receive the necessary links and information about how to view them.

While we will certainly miss seeing you in person at this year's annual meeting, we are excited about the opportunities we have to engage with you online while we all do our best to stay safe during this era of the COVID-19 pandemic. We hope you'll join us as we celebrate our deep roots and our green shoots--recognizing our rich heritage while looking forward to a bright future together!

World Hunger Sunday

There is no doubt that 2020 will be written about quite extensively in the history books for a variety of reasons. One of the ”newsworthy” things that we don’t want to go unnoticed has been the efforts of the BGAV and many of our congregations to provide food to the most vulnerable in our communities through our hunger ministries. The BGAV has distributed more money in Virginia and across the globe related to food security and hunger issues than at any other time in history.

As of October 1, 2020, we have distributed $287,050 as follows:

$127,750 in specific COVID-19 related grants to 130 congregations which were primarily used for hunger alleviation.
$114,800 in Virginia Hunger funds to 46 distinct BGAV ministry partners ( 29 congregations, 5 district Associations, and 12 Virginia based hunger organizations)
$48,500 to several of our international partners for hunger relief

And, the work is far from complete! We continue to receive requests from our partners and we need your help in responding. October is traditionally recognized as “World Hunger Awareness” month with this coming Sunday, October 11, being the specific Sunday that we offer prayers and awareness. Please consider contributing to this ongoing mission to alleviate hunger and poverty across our Commonwealth and the world as we seek out those who are most vulnerable and share with them in our abundance.

Virginia Baptist Disaster Response Volunteers on Alert

We wanted to send a brief update about the potential response to Hurricane Delta. At this time we are placing Feeding, Crisis Care, and Chainsaw teams ON ALERT to respond when the storm strikes.

We will receive updates through the weekend and communicate with those who indicate below that they are available to serve. Please remember in prayer those affected and those who serve.
