Dear Friends,

Before we break for the holidays, we'd like to share with you some exciting updates.

We are pleased to announce that we successfully raised $6,080 from yesterday's #GivingTuesday campaign. We are grateful to everyone for their support during this difficult time.

Since the summer, we have continued to send GEMS kits to schools, libraries, and Indigenous communities in lieu of delivering in-person programs. Children and families in Ontario, Saskatchewan, Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, and Nunavut have been able to enjoy Earth science activities and learn about rocks, minerals, metals, mining and careers in the industry.

Our team has also worked on the development of new activities, including a robotics activity that will teach participants how to code and a second virtual escape room, which will be available in 2021.

To celebrate North Bay Mining Week, we facilitated a series of virtual workshops in partnership with CIM Northern Gateway, Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord, Conseil scolaire public du Nord-Est de l’Ontario, Near North District School Board and Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board. The workshops reached more than 500 students and teachers over three weeks. You can register to have a virtual geoscience workshop delivered to your class.

We would like to thank the Canadian Association of Girls in Science for inviting us to participate in one of their virtual workshops. Our staff taught 72 participants about the role that minerals play in toothpaste and showed them how they can make their own.

In November, our team hosted an exhibit at the virtual Indspire conference, National Gathering. Our staff participated in several workshops to gain knowledge and ideas for teaching in Indigenous communities. This week, we will also be participating in the CIM Mineral Resources Review.
BE THE SPARK
We are thrilled to share our new collaboration with DELANE. We worked with this local jeweller to design a unique pendant for Mining Matters. The piece represents our mission to spark curiosity about Earth sciences in youth and $15 from every necklace sold will be donated back to Mining Matters. To learn more about the story behind this piece, visit delane.ca/the-spark.

To receive your order in time for the holidays, orders must be placed no later than December 8, 2020 at 11:59 PM EST.
We wish you all a safe and happy holidays!
