DO YOU KNOWhow the Endowment supports the mission of the Church? A few questions might come to mind.

What is the difference between disbursement of annual pledge and gifts to the Endowment?
Annual pledging funds are used to meet the day-to-day operations of the church, whereas the Endowment disbursements are for items outside of, or in addition to, the budgeted expenses of the church. Gifts to the Endowment are invested; thereby allowing the gift to remain an asset in perpetuity while the income from the investment becomes an ongoing financial resource for the mission and ministry of the church. The Endowment is a separate organization, exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

How are disbursements from the Endowment determined?
The Endowment assets consist of a combination of fourteen (14) designated accounts and some undesignated accounts. Each designated account has a specific purpose and funds are disbursed only for the intended purpose. Disbursements from these accounts are requested by Vestry members or Committee Chairs, then must be approved by the Endowment Board by means of a review process. The funds held in undesignated accounts are similarly managed, but at a greater discretion for things like special needs and projects not foreseen or anticipated by the church.

What disbursements have been distributed January-April 2022?
Disbursements of $14,430 have been distributed as follows:
$190       Endowment Operations and Communications (Legacy Leader gifts)
$3,427   Trinity Episcopal School – Charlotte (scholarship fund)
.   $638       Columbarium (urns and cleaning)
       $10,175  Outreach (allocated below)
                        $4,075  Hagar’s Basket
                        $4,000  Galilee Ministries
                        $2,100  Merry Oaks International Academy

More information can be accessed through the St. John’s website www.stje.org/endowment or feel free to call George Sheild (Chair) at 704-361-7718 or any member of the Board.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
June 20-24, 2022
9:00am-12:30pm

Time to “Arise and Shine”! St. John’s invites young explorers (4-year-olds through rising sixth graders) to join us as we journey to Adventure Island! It is bound to be a great week of games, music, crafts, and more as we learn how the light of God shines in all of our lives.

We are also looking for adult and youth volunteers to help our young adventurers during their expedition. All help is welcome! And if you cannot volunteer during VBS week, ask about helping with our decorating team.

To sign up as a participant or a teen volunteer, just go to the church website (link below) to register. Adult volunteers should contact Matt Williams at the church. Hope to see you there!
St. John's Parish Retreat
We're going to Kanuga!
Friday, Sept. 9-Sunday, Sept. 11, 2022

Join us for a fun family friendly event! Let your kids roam free! Go swimming in a lake or take out a canoe. Sit on a screened in porch with friends and laugh together. Renew your faith in the beauty of the North Carolina Mountains. Reconnect with God and your parish family. Meet new people and create relationships that will last a lifetime.
OUTREACH
Hey St. John’s! The next time you see Bob Nye, be sure to thank him for everything he does to help with Operation Sandwich. He helps us find great prices on supplies, collects boxes for gathering sandwiches, and takes the sandwiches (hundreds of them) to Roof Above. He is a wonder, and we are so grateful for his help in this ministry. Thanks Bob!
