LTHS Parents/Guardians & Students,
I hope this email finds you having a wonderful weekend! I wish all of our students a great last week before spring break and a relaxing, safe and fun spring break week.
I would like to share some celebrations:
- Congratulations to the Debate Team on a successful showing at IHSA State! The following debaters advanced to the semifinals: Angus Allan, Ben Dreves Hunt, Lillian Grigsby, Chloe Lanspeary, and Elle St. Arnaud! Elle St. Arnaud advanced from semifinals to the finals round of 16 debaters from across the state for the second year in a row and finished 4th, earning a state medal. Congratulations to Elle!
- I would also like to highlight two recent experiences that LTHS students had the opportunity to participate in. The LTHS Marching Band had the opportunity to travel to Disney World and had the chance to share their talents as they performed in a parade! The LTHS Steppers had the chance to perform at the United Center in conjunction with a Bulls Game! Congratulations to our Marching Band and Steppers!
College and Career Center Update
College Panels continue this week at North Campus in Room 140 with 31 schools visiting! Each panel will include four college representatives from various types of institutions—public vs. private, in state vs. out of state, small vs. large. This is strongly recommended for Juniors as it is a great way to see what your options are! Students can sign up here (using their LTHS student email).
- Panels will be held during 4th and 5th periods. If a student attends during their lunch, they can eat lunch at the panel.
- Students must sign up 24 in advance and notify their teacher if panel conflicts with a class
A reminder for Senior families: College of DuPage scholarships are due March 31. You must apply to COD as a degree-seeking student before applying for their scholarships.

Young Hearts for Life Campus Visits
We are excited to welcome representatives from YH4L to speak with students during their PE classes at both campuses on Tuesday, March 22, about the importance of heart screenings.
Our partnership with YH4L offers students a free electrocardiogram (ECG) heart screening as part of a program to identify teenagers at risk of sudden cardiac death. Approximately 60 young people die every week from a sudden cardiac death, and most have no prior diagnosis or symptoms.
This event is sponsored by District 204, Mend a Heart Foundation, The Lyons Township Boosters Club, the Lyons Township Parent Teacher Council and Youngs Hearts for Life.
The Young Hearts for Life program will be screening LTHS students for free in May. The Screening Program will take place at:
- North Campus May 2, 2023
- South Campus May 9, 2023
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
To offer this free screening to students, nearly 200 volunteers are needed. Each volunteer will be required to attend one 90-minute training session scheduled for the evening prior to the actual date of the screening. Training will be offered from 5:30-7pm (with refresher for prior volunteers happening from 5:30-6pm) or 7-8:30pm (with refresher for prior volunteers happening from 7:00-7:30pm) May 1 at North Campus and May 8 at South Campus.
Three Volunteer shifts are available on May 2 at North Campus and May 9 at South Campus: All Day (7am-3:05pm), Morning (7am-11:30am) and Afternoon (10:45am-3:05pm) on both screening days.
Volunteers can sign up at:
No medical training or experience is necessary for volunteers. The screening consists of a three-minute ECG. Volunteers attach electrodes to the students’ chest and limbs. An ECG monitors the electrical activity of the heart and prints information about its rate and rhythm. The print out is read by a cardiologist, who interprets the results. Volunteers will also be needed to process students on the day of the screening, data entry, filing, and waiting room assistants. Volunteers must be over the age of 18 and not attending high school.
Sign-up information for student screenings will be announced at a later date.
