MHP and MAPS-MCRC are pleased to host a community conversation about autism and intellectual disabilities, on Friday, June 3rd at 7pm in the MAPS-MPR 1.
Intellectual disabilities are increasingly common in our community, yet poorly understood. We hope this is the start of more initiatives to build inclusive spaces in our Muslim community for families with and without these diagnoses. Please join us to learn more about the implications of these diagnoses, how to support families that are affected by them, and how to be an ally and advocate for their unique needs and talents.
This community-centered conversation will be led by Dr. Gary Stobbe, a neurologist, and director of the UW Adult Autism Center, and Jim Mancini, speech-language pathologist and director of the Washington INCLUDE collaborative (Inclusive Network of Community Leaders focused on the Underserved and Disability Education). We will also be joined by Dr. Ahmed Abdelrazek, psychiatry resident at UW and Adriana Mohamed, a parent and vocal advocate in our community.
Please join us!
