Dear Normandale Families,

The month of May marks the return of celebrations and activities we haven’t seen or done for two years!

  • This week fifth grade orchestra students performed a live evening concert for family and friends. It was great to see our auditorium filled with music and spectators. Band students will have their thirty minutes of fame next Monday evening.
  • Normandale’s kindergartners will show off their French on Thursday afternoon when they present their “Grand Spectacle”, a compendium of songs they have learned over the course of the school year. Historically this is one of my favorite events of the school year!
  • On May 21 La Kermesse, Normandale’s Carnival, returns after a two year hiatus. This is a great community building affair and this year it does NOT fall on Kentucky Derby day! Click here for more information.
  • June 2 marks the end of the school year, but not the end of the fun for Normandale students. Like La Kermesse, Field Day is back on the schedule after a two-year break. Lets hope the weather cooperates so Normandale’s K-4 students can do the Chicken Dance one more time in Kuhlmann stadium! While Normandale’s younger students are enjoying Field Day, Normandale’s fifth graders will be participating in their recognition ceremony. After all the speeches are done and all the diplomas are passed out Normandale’s fifth graders will be off-site mini-golfing!

After a few challenging years it is fun to see these fun traditions return to Normandale!

NORMANDALE CARNIVAL - LA KERMESSE - MAY 21!

Please save-the-date for Saturday, May 21st from 3-6 pm for the Normandale Carnival, "La Kermesse." It will take place in and around the Edina Community Center Gyms (backside of Normandale).

The date is fast approaching, but we know our community can pull together a wonderful La Kermesse de Normandale for our students and families. Below is a link to our volunteer SignUpGenius. Please help if you can! If we don't get enough volunteers we'll have to majorly downsize the carnival games.

END-OF-YEAR TEACHER/STAFF GIFTS

The Normandale PTO wants to provide a helping hand and facilitate end-of-year gifts for Normandale teachers and staff. Participation is optional.

The PTO has created an online form that will allow families to make an electronic payment with a custom note to their chosen teachers/Normandale staff members.

The form is available within the Membership Toolkit platform. All gifts must be submitted by Friday, May 27.

In order to access the form, you must be logged in to Normandale's Membership Toolkit portal. If you have not confirmed your family's data this year, you will need to do that before the system will allow you to access the gift form. Once you are logged in, you can find Forms under the My Account menu.

The gift form is also available through the Membership Toolkit mobile app. You can find it in the top left menu under My Account > FormsNormandale families already have an entry in the directory even if you have never logged in. If you are unsure what email address is associated with your Normandale Membership Toolkit account, or if you have any questions about the form, please email Sheri Rosen.

Additional details:

  • Funds will be distributed to teachers in the form of a cash gift.
  • Teachers/staff do not see individual gift amounts.
  • You may use this form as many times as you'd like.
  • We will compile and distribute any notes to teachers/staff you would like to include.
  • If you would like to leave a note but not give a gift, enter an amount to enable the notes box and use the code NOTESONLY in the Scholarship Code section at checkout.
  • If you see a $0.00 that is not changeable, that staff member has elected not to receive monetary gifts. Feel free to leave a note!

Once again, participation is completely optional.

2022-23 NORMANDALE SCHOOL SUPPLIES

At Normandale, we buy school supplies in bulk for all students. This saves time and money for families, reduces waste, and promotes sharing as part of our school culture. Supplies are ready for students in the classroom before the first day of school.

We will be collecting field trip fees, classroom party fees, and PTO fees at the same time as school supplies.

Ordering Your Supplies

The school supplies order form is available within the Membership Toolkit platform.

In order to access the school supplies form, you must be logged in to Normandale's Membership Toolkit portal. If you have not confirmed your family's data this year, you will need to do that before the system will allow you to access the school supplies form. Additional Details

School Supplies

This cost varies by grade. Teachers work with the school supply team to ensure they have all the supplies needed for their classrooms.

French Intern Donation

The largest and most important line item in the PTO fee payment. We ask that you contribute $100 PER STUDENT you have at Normandale to help pay for all the things needed to bring the best interns into our classrooms. The fundraising we do throughout the year covers a large portion of the expenses; PTO family donations make up the rest.

PTO Family Contribution

Each FAMILY is asked to contribute a flat fee of $30 per year. These membership fees are allocated for various school-wide programs, grants, and financial aid.

Scholarships are Available - Please contact Principal Holden.

PLEASE RETURN OVERDUE BOOKS

The school year is wrapping up and it's time to bring your overdue books back to the library! Check your bookshelves at home, your lockers, your backpacks, and look around the classroom for those French books!

Overdue books must be returned before the last day of school to avoid Lost Book fees. Please email Mme. Zimprich if you need a list of your student's overdue books.

LUNCH TIME MOOD BOOST

MOOD BOOST TASTINGS.pptx.jpg

It’s well known that food affects physical well-being. Now, new evidence finds that food also affects mood and mental well-being.

To help students identify how certain foods can make them feel, Chartwells K12 is bringing back Tasting Tuesdays with a fun new program ... Mood Boost!

Every Tuesday, Registered Dietitian Alex Turnbull will help students sample fresh vegetables that are featured on the lunch menu. If students don’t want to taste the vegetable, she will help them engage with it by smelling, touching and encouraging even a lick.

Edina Public Schools and its foodservice partner Chartwells K12 want every

student to leave the cafeteria happier and healthier than they came. The Mood

Boost program makes learning about and tasting healthy foods even more fun

while educating students through engaging demonstrations, mood-boosting

recipes, fun activities and collectible giveaways.

Mood Boost tasting schedule:

5/17: Grape tomatoes

5/24: Radish

SAVE THE DATE - NORMANDALE BACK TO SCHOOL

On August 29th and 30th Normandale Elementary will be hosting Connect and Assess Days with all Normandale students and families. Please mark your calendars to be in town on these important days. Students will be invited by their teacher to participate in the planed assessments of learning and important connection and relationship building activities. More information to come. Thank you!

NORMANDALE SNEAKER DRIVE

Hello Normandale families!

We are doing a shoe drive from April 21 - May 13. The purpose is to collect shoes. This will keep old sneakers out of our landfills. After the drive the shoes will go to Gotsneakers, which is a sneaker donating company. They will pay for the shoes. They donate the shoes and keep them away from landfills. The money we acquire will be donated to Warrior Dog Rescue. This charity helps rescue and relocate neglected dogs. We are doing this as a joint Earth Day and animal rescue project.

Our 5th grade Ambassadeurs will be leading this project along with some of our 4th grade apprentice Ambassadeurs. They are all very excited about this project and hope you will be too. You can bring cleats and sneakers with laces or velcro. They cannot be any kind of heels/sandals. You can bring in used shoes or new ones you are not wearing. Any size shoes will be accepted. You may send these shoes to school with your child and they may leave them in a box in hallways. The Ambassadeurs will be collecting the shoes everyday. Any contribution will be greatly appreciated and will help us save our great planet and the dogs of our great planet.

Thanks, the Ambassadeurs Communication Committee-

Gabby, Andy, Finley, Nora on behalf of all the Normandale Ambassadeurs
