"Enjoy Central Mass South"
The 2022 Membership Directory & Regional Guide
Deadline for ads in December 6th!

Time is running out to stand out in the 2022 Chamber Directory & Regional Guide, "Enjoy! Central Mass South."

The deadline to advertise in this important ad-funded guide to member businesses and our region is next Monday, December 6th. This is your opportunity to stand out in this go-to community resource promoting Chamber Members first for residents and visitors looking for information on who to call, and where to shop, dine, stay and play while in our region.

As the leading advocate for local business, the Chamber of Central Mass South promotes the success of its members and enhances regional prosperity through networking, education, and promotion. With that mission in mind, the Chamber will once again publish a regional guide and membership directory for 2022 designed to promote local, support tourism, and build community for homeowners, business owners, residents and tourists.

“Enjoy Central Mass South” makes it easy for locals and visitors to turn to Chamber Members first when looking for reliable recommendations on where to go, what to do, where to dine, where to stay, where to shop, and who to call when you need business and homeowner services. In addition to a listing of all (and only) Central Mass South Chamber members, Enjoy Central Mass South will include a handy map of our member towns, general resource and community information, and an overview of what makes living, working in, and visiting our region so special.

The Chamber plans to print 4,500 copies of this glossy magazine and make it available all year long at the Chamber Office and Member shops and businesses throughout the region. It will also be distributed by the Chamber at community and business networking events throughout the year. It is expected to be in circulation by mid-January 2022.

The Chamber has once again teamed up with Chamber member Weathervane Enterprises, Inc., publishers of Your Hometown Shopper and the Brimfield Show Guide, to design and produce Enjoy Central Mass South for the Chamber. All Chamber members are welcome to support this important community resource by advertising their business or the services they provide. Now, more than ever, we need this resource to help our business community return, stronger than ever!

Please contact Alexandra McNitt, executive director of The Chamber of Central Mass South at 508-347-2761 or Maxine Carter-Lome, publisher, Weathervane Enterprises Inc. at 508-347-1960 x402, for more information and to reserve ad space.

First Cats from Second Chance Large-Scale Rescue Ready for Adoption
Nonprofit Continues to Provide Cares for Others with Additional Medical Needs

NORTH BROOKFIELD, MA (November 15, 2021) – Some of the 68 cats that were surrendered last month by a local pet owner are now looking for homes. Second Chance Animal Services reports that there are currently 20 cats from the group available for adoption while other cats are still receiving care at the nonprofit’s Almost Home Facility or are with their volunteer fosters.

Animal Relocation Director Wendy Hall, who oversees both the Almost Home Facility and the Adoption Center, says she is so proud of all the staff who are supporting these cats during their journeys to forever homes. “They have been working tirelessly to care for these cats. Many of the cats were so scared when they first arrived. My team spent many days crawling around on hands and knees to care for cats who were too scared to use litter boxes. It is so rewarding when they finally relax and head bop and purr.”

The staff kept detailed notes on each cat’s habits, temperaments, and friendships. “Many of the shy cats will do better adopted with a friend so we are offering a $50 discount on some pairs,” adds Hall. Thirteen cats have been adopted so far. There are additional cats that are waiting for space to open up at the adoption center so they can find new families too.

Several of the cats were facing serious eye issues when they were surrendered including two young kittens named Daydream and Sabrina. Second Chance Shelter Veterinarian Jackie Celmer reports that “Daydream’s eye is ruptured but it is healing well. She will stay with a foster while it continues to heal. We hope it heals so she won’t need further surgery but if not then she will. Sabrina's eye is healed although very permanently scarred. She can see shadows, but her vision is impaired. They are both happy and growing like crazy.” Many of the remaining cats need dental surgery before they can be cleared for adoption.

Second Chance CEO Sheryl Blancato says she is grateful to the many supporters who have donated to help defray the cost of caring for the cats. “There’s actually 71 cats including the first litter of kittens that were born and we have five more litters on the way. We’re thankful for all the fosters who have welcomed some of the cats into their homes, and to all the volunteers who have stepped up to help care for the cats.” Blancato estimates the total cost to care for all the cats will be between $30,000 and $35,000.

Fundraising continues to help with their medical care. Donations can be made online at secondchanceanimals.org, through the Second Chance Facebook page, or checks can be mailed to Second Chance, 111 Young Road, East Brookfield, MA 01515.

Cornerstone Bank assists in local charitable organization winning grant
Bank CEO Todd Tallman nominated Living in Freedom Together (LIFT) for award

WORCESTER, Mass. – Cornerstone Bank, a community bank with 12 locations throughout Central Massachusetts, has assisted Living in Freedom Together (LIFT) in winning a grant from the Massachusetts Bankers Association Charitable Foundation. Cornerstone Bank CEO Todd Tallman nominated the Worcester based organization, which is committed to ending the sex trade, for a 2021 community grant. They received the $3,000 Honorable Mention Award.

“We are proud to support an organization like LIFT doing important and difficult work in our community,” said Cornerstone Bank CEO Todd Tallman. “This underserved community deserves the same shot at safety, health and happiness as the rest of us and we are so happy we were able to help them secure these funds. I also want to thank the Massachusetts Bankers Association for seeing the value in their work just as we have.”

The Massachusetts Bankers Association represents 120 commercial, savings, and co-operative and federal savings banks and savings and loan associations across the Commonwealth. Each year, the Charitable Foundation asks member banks to nominate impactful charities and organizations that are actively addressing the needs of their community. Cornerstone Bank chose to nominate LIFT, whose mission is to end systems of prostitution, building a world where survivors are valued, equal members of the community.

"LIFT will be using the funds to support our annual LIFT Up The Holidays, where we hold a holiday celebration and drive to ensure that our participants, both in our programs and still being exploited in systems of prostitution, have gifts, support, and experience joy during an incredibly difficult season for many survivors,” said Nicole Bell, founder and CEO of LIFT Worcester. “LIFT would like to thank Cornerstone Bank and the Mass Bankers Association for its contribution to support survivors of prostitution. Prostituted people are often overlooked and forgotten. We are incredibly grateful for commitment of Cornerstone to ensure prostituted people in our community are seen and valued. That is allyship and we look forward to continuing our work and partnership together."

Festival of {Giving} Trees 2021

The 2021 Festival of {Giving} Trees dates are December 2nd thru December 5th. At this point we are planning a live event and a “virtual” event. This year we will be celebrating our 24th year!

This four day family event is designed to be a holiday activity. The mission of the Festival is to raise money to help the Silent Spring Institute, the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition and The Cancer Center at Harrington Hospital fight the battle against breast cancer and to help fund cancer research. Over the past twenty years, the Festival of {Giving} Trees has raised and donated over $730,000 to these beneficiaries.

The Festival of {Giving} Trees features more than 100 uniquely decorated trees on display under one roof.

Some are elegant, nostalgic and breathtaking. Some are humorous, some are traditional and some are really hip. The only thing they have in common is that they are all different and they are all sparkling! And each and every one of them will be taken home by lucky raffle winners.

Come join us! It is a community-wide event, so bring your family, friends and neighbors. Visit this link for more details.

Cedar Street Grille’s Global Tapas Dinner: Mexican BBQ
Tuesday, December 7, 2021 • 5:30pm

Join the Cedar Street team and Chef Rico for a multi-course tapas dinner highlighting Mexican BBQ or barbacoa. Mexico has a rich tradition of barbecue that stretches back in time to the period of the ancient Mayans. This historic lineage has fused with European influences to produce a phenomenal style of slow-cooked meat unparalleled in flavor. In northern Mexico, beef dishes reign supreme due to a rich history of cattle ranching. In the southern peninsula state of Yucatan, seafood is a way of life. In vibrant and fast-paced Mexico City, diners enjoy al pastor tacos on busy streets.

Make your reservations early because we expect this dinner to sell out quickly. Pricing for this dinner is $65* per person and includes a special regional cocktail, wine, or beer. The price does not include tax or gratuity. Please call the restaurant directly at 508-347-5800 for reservations. Doors open at 5:30pm and dinner begins promptly at 6:30pm.

Feast of The Seven Fishes • Avellino
Thursday, December 16, 2021 • 6:30pm

The “Feast of the Seven Fishes” popularity in America can be traced back to when Italian-American families rekindled the Old Country's Christmas Eve tradition by preparing a seven-course seafood meal that both made them feel close to their homes, while celebrating the sea, a major connection in Italy. Today, it's considered one of the oldest Italian holiday traditions. Chef Rico will be preparing many of the dishes that make this special dinner a perennial favorite but will also be adding a few new twists to keep it interesting and fresh. Our traditional December “Feast of the Seven Fishes” banquet will be held on just one night this year: Thursday, December 16.

This popular event is always a sell-out so call 508-347-2321 today to make your reservation. The cost per person on this extravagant feast is $69 not including tax or gratuity.
