Der Rundbrief
ISSUE 477 / November 18, 2021
Greetings from the Executive Director
Dr. Christensen
Liebe TCGIS Gemeinschaft! Dear TCGIS community,

Thank you to those of you who have already completed this brief survey about proposals for use of anticipated federal funds to address learning recovery due to Covid. The survey will be available until Sunday, November 21. We are grateful for your input.

As you gather with family and friends in the coming days, consider finding ways to honor the native communities of Minnesota or of the areas where you will be gathered. This site allows you to click on a detailed map of the U.S. and Canada to identify peoples native to specific regions, the languages they speak, and the treaties that have impacted their lives.

A wealth of historical and cultural information about the Dakota people, keepers of the land on which TCGIS rests, can be found here. Included on that site is this very short documentary (see esp. beginning at 3:25), which movingly articulates efforts to preserve the Dakota language by teaching it to the community’s youngest speakers.

Wishing you a peaceful week,
Kirsten Christensen

Pediatric COVID-19 Vaccination Opportunities
TCGIS Vaccine Clinics for Ages 5-11 - all spots filled!
Thank you to everyone who has registered for our vaccine clinic this evening and on December 9! The spots are now full. If you are still seeking a vaccine appointment for your child(ren), more resources are listed below.

What to Expect at the Vaccine Clinic
Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian when receiving a vaccine. It is helpful to complete the informed consent prior to arriving at the vaccination clinic. Vaccines will be administered individually, with privacy. There is no cost for the vaccine. In an effort to make the events as low-anxiety as possible, there will be live music played by TCGIS volunteers while kids and families wait.

Return to school after travel out of state/country
Breaks, holidays including travels are coming up, so we would like to remind you of our procedures concerning return to school after traveling:
  • Non vaccinated students can return to school after receiving a negative PCR test result. They should remain home till they have the test result.
  • Fully vaccinated students (14 days after their second shot) and students that had a positive test result within 90 days prior (after their isolation period) are welcome to return, a PCR test is strongly recommended.

If you are considering traveling for a holiday or event, visit CDC: Travel to help you decide what is best for you and your family.
  • CDC still recommends delaying travel until you are fully vaccinated and provides testing recommendations for those who are planning to travel.
  • Masks are mandatory on public transportation, including buses and airplanes.
If you are gathering with a group of people from multiple households and potentially from different parts of the country, you should consider some additional precautions prior to gathering (e.g., lay low before you go, avoid crowded indoor spaces, get tested) to further reduce risk.

Today is Give to the Max!
Your generosity has a tremendous impact on our school community. Every gift, no matter what size, helps to fund many of the things that make our immersion school unique: German curricular materials, intercultural engagement opportunities and our beloved intern program!

Our goal for today is $45,000, a little less than half of our annual goal of $110,000.

Your generous donations surpassed $25,000 this afternoon and unlocked the Board match of $10,390, bringing our total to $36,561 as of 3:00 p.m.!

If you've already made a donation today, vielen Dank!
If you haven't had a chance to yet, you can make a one-time or recurring gift here.

Kinderclub Absences
Dear Kinderclub Parents,

In addition to updating Pikmykid, please send an email to mbromenschenkel@tcgis.org or kinderclub@tcgis.org if your child is absent from before or after care. Searching for absent children can result in program interruptions for staff and other children, create chaos and will take staff away from supervising students.

If Staff is not notified for 3 consecutive times, and have to attempt to locate your child, a $10 finders fee will be charged.
NO After-School Enrichment Classes Next Week (Nov. 22-26)

Fall Universal Screening Update
We have just finished our fall school-wide screening. Students completed assessments specific to their grade level in reading, math, or both of these areas. With our recent switch from PowerSchool to Infinite Campus, we are in the process of navigating an entirely new system and process for communicating these important screening results to our families. This means that the letter and information may look a bit different than how it has looked in the past. We are learning about this new system, and doing our best to identify the best way to communicate information to all families. In the next week, please keep a close eye on your email for your child's fall screening assessment scores.
If you still have questions or concerns after reviewing the results, we encourage you to review this resource. As always, thank you for all that you do.
