Dear Residents –

This week, we saw the tragic loss of life caused by the earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria. While many of us want to help the survivors of the disaster, before donating, especially to a lesser-known organization, please make sure it is reputable. Sites like Charity Navigator and Guidestar can help and they even grade nonprofits based on transparency and effectiveness.

Some of the better known organizations that are looking for donations are the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and Doctors Without Borders. Please keep the victims in your thoughts and prayers and, if you are able, consider donating to one of the many nonprofits that are stepping up to help the victims.

On Tuesday night, in recognition of Black History Month, the Town Board honored Dr. Dana Stilley for her achievements and contributions to our community. I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Stilley at the Memorial & Street Renaming Ceremony in honor of Rev. Dr. Louis Sanders of the St. Charles AME Zion Church. With her warm smile and welcoming personality, and upon learning about all she does for our community, I could not think of a better person to honor.

With the unseasonably warm weather still upon us, consider getting out and enjoying a walk. With so many great places, from Veterans Memorial Park to the Piermont Pier, you don’t have to go too far from home.

Have a great weekend and stay safe!

Regards,

Teresa M. Kenny
