I recently shared with the media that if the State Fire Marshal's proposed guidelines for parades were adopted, we (the City and the Carnival organizations) would not be able to meet those guidelines. Hence, we would not be able to parade. Certain news outlets morphed this into "Mayor Johnson Cancels Carnival."
Well, that's not actually what I said nor what I did. (Phase II makes this a moot point).
Whether to permit an event or not, I will continue to use the same criteria I have used throughout 2020: If there is a reasonable expectation of meeting social distancing guidelines, we will enjoy the event. If there is not, then we will not have the event.
