Clothing and Food Give-Away
Pastor Sandra Bedford of Emanuel Tabernacle of Praise (ETOP) recently organized another of her clothing and food give-aways on 30th Avenue. The Knights of Columbus from St. Peter's Church pitched in with over 40 coats they collected from donations. Residents of Barkly Parc donated children's books.

All in all, it was a good day.

Carnival Parades ... Not Quite What I Said
I recently shared with the media that if the State Fire Marshal's proposed guidelines for parades were adopted, we (the City and the Carnival organizations) would not be able to meet those guidelines. Hence, we would not be able to parade. Certain news outlets morphed this into "Mayor Johnson Cancels Carnival."

Well, that's not actually what I said nor what I did. (Phase II makes this a moot point).

Whether to permit an event or not, I will continue to use the same criteria I have used throughout 2020: If there is a reasonable expectation of meeting social distancing guidelines, we will enjoy the event. If there is not, then we will not have the event.
Pick-up, Dine-in & Help!
During Phase II, our restaurants are reduced back to 50% seating capacity. Sometimes, supporting the community is as easy as placing an order, picking it up and dining at home.

Or, if the weather is nice, head over to one of our parks. Picnicking with take-out at the Bogue Falaya Park is quite popular.

To be a successful restauranteur in Covington you have to be good ... really good. Let's support them!
