Census 2020 Deadline Quickly Approaching
September 30 is your last chance
10 Minutes for 10 Years
As of September 9, 2020, nearly 87% of Texas households have completed the 2020 Census. That's amazing, but unfortunately we are behind 38 other states and territories in our completion rank.

If you have completed the Census - thank you! If you haven't yet, you still have time. The deadline is September 30.

Let's show the country our Texas pride by finishing in the top 10 by taking 10 minutes right now to answer questions that will impact services to our country for the next 10 years.

About the Census
  • Every 10 years, the U.S. Census Bureau counts every person living in the U.S. and its territories.
  • The Census asks the name, gender, birth date, race, and ethnicity of each person in your household.
Why the Census Matters, Especially to People with Disabilities
Many people ask, "If disability data is not collected in the 2020 Census, it must not matter to people with disabilities, right?" Wrong. First of all, disability data is gathered in other census surveys conducted more regularly.

And, the 2020 Census data DOES matter for people with disabilities. It matters for everyone. The data collected will:
  • Help determine how many Congressional seats states will receive
  • Influence where the boundaries of legislative, school, and voting districts are drawn
  • Be used to determine billions of dollars in funding for important services like Medicaid, Medicare, social security, public transportation, disaster response, and other programs for people with disabilities.

Simple Ways You Can Complete the Census
  • By now you should have received a questionnaire in the mail that you can complete and send back for free.
  • You can also respond by phone in English at 1-844-330-2020. Or visit the 2020 Census website for information about responding by phone in other languages.
  • For those who are deaf or hard of hearing, you can call the Census TDD line at 1-844-467-2020.
  • You can complete the online questionnaire on the Census 2020 website. The online questionnaire follows web accessibility standards, is available in 12 languages, and includes a ASL video guide.
  • You can complete the census by sending a text to that says
"RespondNow" to 313131 and click on the link in the reply text from the Census Bureau. You will then click the green respond button to complete the census.
  • Census workers are currently finishing up visits to households that have not yet responded. If needed, you can tell the worker you need to be visited by someone who communicates in ASL or other languages.
  • Census workers visiting homes will take all necessary precautions for social distancing, wearing appropriate protective equipment such as a mask, etc.
  • You can choose someone you trust to help you complete the questionnaire or communicate with the census worker.
Counting People in Group Facilities
  • People who live in group homes, residential treatment centers, prisons, homeless shelters, and skilled nursing centers will not receive a direct invitation to respond to the census but can ask their housing administrator if they have been counted.
  • Census staff have worked over the past several months with facility housing administrators to set up specific times to meet with them and gather information on their residents.
Don't wait another minute - take 10 minutes to be counted TODAY!
