This week in STEAM we learned all about different kinds of animals! We had fun classifying our animal groups (mammals, reptiles, birds, and animals without bones-invertebrates). We learned about their different habitats, what they need to survive, and their types of body coverings (i.e. fur, feathers, scales).

This week early childhood students in Ms. Morrison's Music and Movement class were introduced to new instruments. They tried the guitar, xylophone, and the drum. They had fun plucking the strings of the guitar and playing in a band with their classmates.

Students in Morah Aviva's ECE4A class enjoyed making medurot (bonfire) collages in honor of Lag BaOmer this week. Morah Aviva told the story of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai and his students and then acted it out with the students. The class is also doing a great job at counting the omer and climbing up the mountain toward Har Sinai.

Middle school students in Mrs. Rosenzweig's Home Economics class learned how to mend clothing by sewing both by hand and using the machine.

This week students in Morah Sandy's ECE3 class learned from Parsha Behar that Hashem told Moshe it is an avaira, sin, to say things which make people feel bad. The students played a game where they threw a ball and gave a compliment to whoever caught the ball. They also learned that it is a mitzva to share, so they practiced sharing toys with each other. Everyone enjoyed making each other feel happy.

It is full steam ahead as many grades come together to work on different parts of the gan. Middle school students set the supports for our gazebo and created individual meditation areas that 3rd grade students primed, and 5th grade students painted. Kol Hakavod to everyone that has been working hard as we wrap up Phase 1 of the Gan Shalshelet project this year. We are excited to help the garden more in the 2022–2023 school year. This week 6th grade students in Mr. Polanski's science class learned about aquatic ecosystems. The 7th grade students learned about streams and lakes. 8th grade students learned solutions of acids and bases.

5th grade students in Ms. Rantz's art class have been working hard at completing their unit on food pop art. In the image above you can see their watercolor studies and cardboard paper creations. Their ceramic pieces are being fired in our kiln for painting next week.

Flowers are the topic in art this month for many of our grades. In early childhood, ECE15 and ECE2 students created butterfly flowers. In kindergarten, students created paper collage flowers in a field. In 4th grade, students worked on paper explorations.

Students in Morah Aviva's ECE4A class and students in Mrs. B's ECE4B class enjoyed an end of the year celebration splashing around and having a great time with water squirters, balloons, and delicious popsicles. Kindergarten here they come!
