When Humans Unravel God’s Plan for Justice
“Pharaoh” – music by Erik Thone, lyrics by Amber Kalina, vocals by Mathew Berger
I wrote the lyrics to the above song after visiting the Holy Land through a class offered by LSTC. When we visited the different sites, I often let my hands move over the walls, the mosaics, the tiles, so I could feel a connection with the people that made them thousands of years before. The song talks about this connection, but also the disconnection that occurs when human hearts become like stones – unyielding, unloving – which was also very present in the Holy Land due to political/religious divides. In our text for this Sunday, Pharaoh hardens his heart to the suffering of the Israelites and to God’s demand for their release. How does God chip away at the stone Pharaoh’s heart has become so that justice can occur?
Holy God, when we become callous to the needs of our neighbors, restore in us hearts of flesh, hearts of love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

How Can I Grow in Faith When it Feels Like I Have No Time?
Being overwhelmed by busy schedules is a common problem that we face in our fast-paced world. Some of us face a constant battle to balance work-school-family-activities-friends-pets (you get it). How can we add growing in faith to the list of demands that we face? Well, the truth is that growing in faith does not need to be the chore we make it to be. God is already at work in us, growing the seed of faith that has been planted in us. Instead of thinking of another activity to add to your day, perhaps this week you can think of setting an intention that involves your faith at the outset of whatever you will engage in. For example, when you’re about to leave home for work or school, set an intention to see God in the faces of your peers. When you’re about to put your kids to bed, set an intention to share God’s love with them before they fall asleep. When you’re about to call a friend or church member, set an intention to let God use you in the words you say. God loves to use the mundane stuff of our lives to draw us closer to God. Engaging our faith through setting an intention is a simple way to become conscious of faith and conscious of God. See what setting an intention can yield for you.

Due to a tremendous increase in the number of families being served by the weekly food distributions (now in excess of 300), St. Andrew has partnered with People’s Resource Center, Wheaton, and Carnicerias Jimenez, West Chicago to supply/purchase all food needed for these distributions that will continue through the end of 2020.
Support is still needed from area churches for volunteers and items not covered by government food assistance programs!
