You'll have a chance to see work from the WCA/NH Closer Look Exhibit, and those in attendance have the opportunity to talk about their work. It will be a virtual gallery talk!

Our guest speaker, NH photographer Maundy Mitchell will talk about the exciting work she's been doing, including her Protest Portraits project.

A short presentation from our scholarship winners.

We'll have a quick business meeting so you'll know what exciting exhibits are coming up.
A chance to see old friends and meet new ones too.

Tell your friends. Everyone is invited!

Email info@wcanh.org for the zoom meeting link.
Dear Members,

The election is coming soon, the stakes are high and every day the news gets crazier and more bizarre. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if aliens attacked!

While our federal government is in complete chaos, it's good to know that here at WCA/NH we have a hard working Board that runs like a well-oiled machine. We are lucky to have volunteers that chip in to provide lots of exhibition opportunities, and generous donators that help fund scholarships for students and professional development for our members.

Right now we are searching for a candidate for our Board. We are missing a Vice President - a position we would like to fill soon. Our VP is responsible for planning the Spring and Fall meeting, storing the bin of paper products, and most important, will eventually become President next Fall. This sounds daunting, but actually is pretty easy. Because everyone on the Board has lots of experience and does such a great job, the President's gig is a breeze. It just takes someone who is organized, remembers to keep everyone on track, gets along with others and can communicate. Prerequisites require being friendly, using a calendar and knowing how to write complete sentences in an email.

We meet online with Zoom now, so no need to drive anywhere. You don't even have to wear pants! If this is something you would be interested in, or know of someone you think would be perfect at it (and hasn't done it before) send me an email at donnacatanzaro1@gmail.com

If you would like to attend one of our Board meetings to check it out, email me and I'll send you the Zoom invite.

And don't forget, if you plan to vote absentee, get your mail-in absentee ballots in early! You can track your absentee ballot online here in NH at https://sos.nh.gov/.

And please attend our Fall Meeting Sunday, October 25 at 3pm on Zoom!

Donna Catanzaro

October is the time for change, and we will be having some changes on the Exhibitions Committee this month. My three-year term seems to have gone quite fast. I have enjoyed working with a talented and knowledgeable Exhibitions Committee to create some exciting and fun shows, and have appreciated support from our members as well. At the Fall Meeting on October 25th, I will be "passing on the torch" to a talented and experienced new Exhibitions Coordinator, Judy Krassowski. She has some terrific, fresh ideas for exhibitions in 2021 that you will be excited to hear about at our Fall Meeting!

A Closer Look is our last show for this year. Please stop by and check out the excellent artwork at the Jaffrey Civic Center, from October 16, through November 13th. There will be an Opening on October 17th, but it is for the artists and their guests only because the Civic Center wants to limit the number of people who attend. They are taking these precautions because of Covid 19.

Our October Exhibitions Meeting will be on October 8th on Zoom, from 3:30 to 4:30p.m.

Signing off,

WCA/NH COVID-19
Artist Emergency Grant Program

Some of our members have been hit especially hard financially by the virus.  If you are having trouble making ends meet and paying for essential living expenses due to a loss of income from the myriad of exhibit, craft show and teaching cancellations, we have set aside money to help. The WCA/NH Artist Emergency Grant will provide $200 grants to WCA/NH artist members in need. This is open to all WCA/NH artist members whose dues are current as of March13th, 2020 - the date Governor Sununu issued a state of emergency due to COVID-19. It is a rolling deadline and grants will be awarded as received until funds run out. The application is a simple half page form.  The form and more information can be found  HERE  on our website.

I've been learning the historical photographic process of wet-plate collodion (tintypes) with Gary Samson.  I'm looking into the possibility of adding a darkroom to my studio to incorporate this process into my portrait work. Here is a photo of one of my best plates so far.
