From the President
| Shawn Hodges APC President |
Hola, !
2020 is glacially moving to its end, and for many of us January 1st can't come soon enough. You may be tempted to ask, "How can it get any worse?" But don't. Let's not tempt fate. It's Friday the 13th, after all.
While it's easy to view this pandemic year as the worst in recent memory, there's a lot going on at APC to be grateful for right now.
- Right now, your APC is planning an amazing array of 2021 programs and services.
- Right now, your APC cBHT Task Force is working to counter NASEM's claims about compounded hormones and to protect cBHT.
- Right now , your APC has a task force focusing on developing technology that captures patient-reported health outcomes.
- Right now, your APC Legislative Committee is focused on addressing critical issues, from FDA's MOU to animal compounding to dietary supplements.
- Right now, your APC BUD Task Force is developing workable and appropriate BUD standards to propose to USP.
- Right now, your APC is engaging the range of health care professionals -- physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants -- to join us in fighting for their right to prescribe compounded therapies.
- Right now, your APC government affairs team and partners are aggressively representing you to policymakers -- and policymakers are listening!
I could go on about plans for the new (hopefully better) year ahead, but I don't want to put the cart before the horse. It's Friday the 13th after all.
Read on for this week's news....
Yours In Health, Shawn

32 (and more) thank yous
A big thank you to the 32 members of Congress who signed a letter to FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn -- a letter urging that the agency not base decisions about compounded hormone therapy on the flawed NASEM study.
"We appreciate the FDA's dedication to promoting safe dispensing of these hormones," they wrote, "but we ask the agency to consider the severely negative impact some of NASEM's recommendations would have on patients."
And also to ALL the members and friends of APC who called and wrote their representatives to educate them about the issue, and to urge them to sign that letter. Generating this kind of bi-partisan support for an issue isn't easy, but thanks to you, we've done it. Rest assured that APC's push to protect cBHT, and the millions of Americans it helps, is only beginning.
You can read the joint letter here.
And here is who we have to thank -- is your representative on the list?
David P. Roe, M.D. Mark Pocan Jaime Herrera Beutler Henry Cuellar Andy Biggs Dan Bishop Sanford Bishop Julia Brownley Buddy Carter John R. Carter Bonnie Watson Coleman Peter DeFazio Mario Diaz-Balart Chuck Fleischmann Mark Green Morgan Griffith French Hill Sheila Jackson Lee John Joyce Joseph P. Kennedy III Ron Kind Darin LaHood Debbie Lesko John Moolenaar Greg Murphy Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Pete Olson Bill Posey C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger Haley Stevens Chris Stewart Steve Stivers
Thank you thank you thank you to every one these!

Brooklyn, represent! Patel named PCCA Compounder of the Year
Congrats to APC member Gopesh Patel of VLS Pharmacy in Brooklyn, NY -- named PCCA Pharmacist of the Year.
"Thank you for this honor. I'm truly humbled by it," Patel said. "I always want to serve anyone who has a problem or a difficult time. I like to help them. That's how my family grew up, that's what I'm following, and I tell my daughters to do the same. I like teaching and sharing with others, so that we can save lives. My reward has always been helping people feel better."
