Weekly Health Update & Summary

For the dates of 5/11/22-5/17/22, zero students tested positive for COVID-19.

Find All COVID-19 Updates Here

Out of Uniform Day Tomorrow

May is the Mental Health Awareness month. To recognize this important topic, we are having an out of uniform day tomorrow, May 19. Students are encouraged to wear the color for mental health awareness - green! Students should wear their green shirts with uniform bottoms or the GA approved sweatpants.

National Spanish Examination

Every year the 8th grade students take the National Spanish Exam. This year 14 students obtained either an honorable mention or a medal in the Examination. Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examination is very prestigious, because this exam is the largest of its kind in the United States.

The National Spanish Examination is a motivational contest to recognize student achievement in the study of Spanish and to stimulate further interest in learning Spanish.

Congratulations to the following students:

Library News

Book Swap is Underway in the Library

It is hard to believe that we are already facing the end of the school year! To celebrate, we are having a “Book Swap” in the library through May 25th. Clean off those home bookshelves and bring in gently used books to trade for new books for summer. There is no limit on the number of books brought in, but please make sure they are appropriate for our school and in good condition. For every book brought in, students will receive a ticket to trade in for another book. Any leftover books will be donated. What a great way to “spring clean” and get some new books for summer reading!

All Library Books Were Due Last Week

The last day to check out books from the GA Library was Friday, May 6, 2022, so all books should've been returned by Friday, May 13. Overdue notices will be sent out weekly until the end of the school year. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Leach at [email protected].

Last Day of School

Our last day of school is scheduled for Friday, May 27. Bus service will be available in the morning, but there will be no bus transportation for dismissal. All students must be picked up from school. We will conclude the school year at Mass with the circle song. Mass begins at 9:00. After Mass, students will return to their classrooms and all students will be dismissed at 10:30. Report cards, student awards, and IOWA results will be sent home on the final day.

A Message From Music Boosters

We've had a successful musical and performing arts year so far! With the Christmas Concert and the Spring Musical (H.S. Musical Jr.), we are wrapping up the school year with our Spring Concert. As with a year ending, so is our music boosters program and that means some board members will be leaving us since their kids are graduating. We have three open slots if you are interested in being on the board, which doesn't take up too much time. The only commitment is to attend virtual meetings every other month and help provide volunteer support for our three major activities: Christmas Concert, Spring Musical and Spring Concert. The rest of the time is advising the Music/Performing Arts for GA via email exchange. If interested in this minimal effort of volunteering to help continue the success of the music program please email our Music Boosters President, Jason Claes. Thank you and have a safe and healthy summer!

Playground Hours Are 8:00am-6:00pm

We want to remind everyone of the hours of operation for our new playground equipment. The portion of the new playground that was installed in the fall sits outside the area where our old equipment sat. Since it is outside the mulch area and is now closer to other property lines, the portion of the equipment with the slide CANNOT be used outside of the posted playground operating hours. Those hours are 8:00am-6:00pm.

Note From the Nurse's Office

Wow, we have made it to May and survived another challenging school year! It feels great to be outside in warmer weather and enjoy more of a sense of normalcy. I feel so blessed to be a part of this amazing community. Thank you for your support.

I wish you all a happy, healthy summer!

Ice Cream Truck Will Be At GA On Last Day of School

The PTA has invited Special Neat Treats to Guardian Angels for the last day of school. Special Neat Treats is an ice cream truck that has been featured on local news, national publications and the Today show. It is a family-run ice cream truck that is staffed by a father and his two adult children with Down Syndrome.

Special Neat Treats will be parked by the GA Pavillion on Friday, May 27th from 10:30-11:30am. After students are dismissed from school, families are invited to make individual purchases from the truck and celebrate the conclusion of the school year. All treats range from $2- $5. Treats are not being purchased by PTA. Parents will need to purchase treats, and monitor selections for food allergies. The ice cream truck takes cash or credit cards.

While students are enjoying their treats, teachers will be celebrating the conclusion of another year together at a special luncheon. Parents will be responsible for monitoring their children.

If you are interested in learning more about ice cream truck, please check out the Special Neat Treats Facebook Page.

Bid-N-Buy & Major Awards

Our Bid-N-Buy auction and Major Awards raffle are returning this June!

This will be a stand alone fundraiser with the Bid-N-Buy auction conducted completely online. Both culminate on the weekend of June 10-12.

Major Awards raffle tickets were mailed to parishioners' homes and are available to purchase in the rectory.

The grand prize for Major Awards is $12,500! The deadline to purchase and/or return tickets is noon on June 12th. The rectory office is closed on Sundays, and does not receive mail on Saturdays, so please plan accordingly.

Here's how can you help our Bid-N-Buy:

  1. Check out the Amazon Wish List. Put your online shopping skills to good use! You can always donate an Amazon gift card in any amount, and we will use it towards our bigger items. Click here to view the list.
  2. Festival tags are set up in front of the kitchen in the gathering space if you visit the church. Take a tag and return it with your donation. Don't forget to include your name so we know who to thank! Gift cards are needed for entertainment, restaurants, and shopping.
  3. Donate lottery tickets in any amount.
  4. Do you have season tickets to local sports events? Can you spare a couple of tickets? We would love to offer tickets to the Reds, Bengals, FC Cincinnati, UC, XU, Ohio State, Notre Dame, UD, etc.
  5. Do you have an experience you can offer? Maybe a tour of your small business or you have a contact with someone at a restaurant, brewery, or factory?
  6. Send in a cash/check donation to the rectory. Please make your check out to Guardian Angels and mark your check as "Bid-N-Buy Donation."

The deadline for returning donations is June 1, but sooner is better! Registration for online bidding will be open May 22.

Camp GAudeo 2022 Square.png

Camp GAudeo Help Is Needed

Thanks to an unprecedented response to Camp GAudeo (June 27-July 1), we have over 120 students in grades 4-7 registered for our week of fun. Now we have a great need for adequate adult chaperone assistance for each day of camp. The Youth Ministry team is asking families to consider if there is an adult in your household who could commit to a day (or more) to help with this important ministry. Adult chaperones act as liaisons for high school counselor leaders and offer supervision for activities under the direction of the youth minister. Contact Bradley Barnes in the Youth Ministry Office if you have any questions, or sign up at this link.

In doing so, we removed the former “attendance line.” All parents needing to report their child absent or late to school should call our Office Assistant, Melissa Boston, using the main school phone number - 624-3141.

Christian Service Program - Faith in Action

The purpose of the Christian Service Program is to enhance the religion curriculum at Guardian Angels Church. It is the duty of all Christians to reach out in service to those around them. Christ asks us to be His hands and feet on earth, keeping His mission of reaching out to those in need alive. The students will complete their service within the following settings: at home, the parish community/school and the community at-large. This outreach may be completed individually, with a partner, or in a group.

This program will focus more on the meaning of the actual service opportunities rather than completing a prescribed amount of time. You will choose activities for each component—service to your family, service to your school/parish and service to the poor and vulnerable in our community. There is no minimum requirement of hours to complete. Grades 1-3 are required to complete at least 2 activities for each component; grades 4-8 at least 3 for each. You are certainly encouraged to complete more! See your Religion teacher, Mrs. Froehlich, or the parish website for a list of suggested activities and the log sheet.

Questions? Contact Kay Froehlich, Director of Religious Education, for more information.
