Model City Charter, 9th Edition Now Available
Mayor Ron Loveridge's Latest Success
Philanthropy Contributes to Good Governance
The National Civic League began a revision process for its Model City Charter in November 2020. The process was led by a Steering Committee of 22 national representatives and experts. The newly released Ninth Edition includes a new emphasis on civic engagement and equity. For a limited time, the new edition of the Model City Charter is available for free.
As a political science professor, an elected official and a member of the League's Board of Directors, Ron Loveridge has been a consistent and influential advocate of local government innovation, collaborative problem-solving, and active civic engagement. Most recently, he was a driving force behind the decision to launch a Model City Charter Revision project in 2020.
To Murray Seasongood, increasing voter turnout was one step toward good governance. The former Cincinnati mayor felt so strongly about civic engagement and professional local governance that he and his wife, Agnes, started a foundation to create lasting change. Today, that foundation devotes resources to projects rooted in civic philanthropy, transparency, and equitability & efficiency. Read more.

Lakewood was also recognized as an All-America City in 2011 and 2016. See page 29 of Colorado Municipalities for more information.
The newly launched All-America Leader Award will recognize individuals, or teams of individuals, who have successfully spearheaded civic engagement efforts in their community. Applicants must be nominated by a third party to be considered. Nomination letters are due by February 28, 2022.
