Community Foundation of Central Illinois Awards $40,000 to Continue Food Insecurity Efforts

Peoria, IL, February 21, 2023 - The Community Foundation of Central Illinois (CFCI) announced the selection of the 2023 Ending Hunger Together grant recipients. The Ending Hunger Together Fund was established to address food insecurity in central Illinois by working to create a framework that mixes healthy food access, civic education and community development. This grant was also made possible by the Sow A Seed Fund, which was established to help combat food insecurity issues throughout central Illinois. HEAL Food System Partners, led by the Tazewell County Health Department, and Peoria Grown for their Market 309 project, will each be awarded $20,000 to continue their work to address food insecurity issues in the community.

The 2023 grant distribution event was entitled "Ending Hunger Together Community Conversation," which included elected officials, community leaders, volunteers and grantees. Featured speakers and panelists Amy Fox-Tazewell County Health Department/HEAL Food System Partners, Chris McGregor-Peoria Grown, Chris Setti-Greater Peoria EDC and CFCI Board member, Matt Gross-Bread for the World and CFCI Board member, and Raghela Scavuzzo-Illinois Farm Bureau lead a discussion surrounding funding, advocacy, collaboration, planning and economic development.

"It is important while celebrating the continued successes of our grantees, HEAL System Food Partners, and Peoria Grown, we recognize that bringing leaders together to collaborate and plan is key to creating lasting change surrounding food insecurity. As discussed at today's event, hunger and food insecurity are multifaceted issues that will take ongoing community collaboration and funding to address. We are proud to continue supporting the initiatives of our two grantees. These programs are raising awareness while also increasing accessibility to resources for those that need them the most," says Mark Roberts, President and CEO of the Community Foundation of Central Illinois.
