A major victory was achieved this week with the
takedown of a firearm and drug trafficking operation that illegally sold guns, including assault weapons, in New York City and Westchester. NYS Attorney General Letitia James led this coordinated effort with the NY Drug Enforcement Task Force. Most of the weapons seized were ghost guns-- unserialized and untraceable firearms that can be bought online, often sold through "ghost gun kits," and assembled at home.
Ghost gun trafficking is a developing cottage industry that threatens to make an already pervasive gun violence problem even worse. Because of the deadly threat they present, I have made going after ghost guns a priority.
Using cutting edge technology and innovative law enforcement techniques to analyze data and intelligence, my office is leading the city in ghost gun seizures. In 2022, we recovered 173 ghost guns, including handguns, assault weapons and machine guns.
Whether on the streets or in the courts, we cannot relent in the battle against illegal guns and the criminals who use them.
My top priority will always be keeping you and your loved ones safe.
In Friendship,
Melinda Katz
Queens District Attorney
