'Tis the season! Newly accepted students will find out the fate of their Smith application at the end of May. To that end, we are hosting an Admitted Students Tea at the home of Donna Dong on April 8th. All Peninsula Bay Area admitted students and their families will be invited to join us in an Open House-style gathering.
Your presence and testimonials would be greatly appreciated and influential as these young people and their families make the tough decision on their college matriculation.
Tea and coffee will be provided. Please consider bringing a finger food (cookies or snacks) to share. This event is open to all alums. Members will receive a proactive Evite. Non-members need to reach out to us at thepeninsulasmithclub@gmail.com to get the location details.

FACULTY SPEAKER

We are pleased to announced an IN PERSON faculty speaker — our first since Covid shut down this beloved annual club tradition. Professor Jon Caris, Director of the Smith College Spatial Analysis Lab, will join us in the Bay Area to educate us on his work in developing a drone code of ethics, and the history of drones at Smith College.
Many of Professor Caris’s initiatives build upon the notion of making invisible, visible. He enjoys creating conditions that afford opportunity to see through a spatial lens, prompting new questions and discussion. Primarily trained as a geographer and environmental planner, Professor Caris received a M.S. in Geo-Environmental Studies from Shippensburg University and a B.A. in Geography from SUNY Geneseo.

Dandelion Chocolate Factory Tour & Tasting - March 4
12 of us met in San Francisco at the Dandelion Chocolate 16th Street Factory Location for a private tour of an active bean-to-bar chocolate factory, featuring a guided walk-through of the Dandelion chocolate-making process, and plenty of samples. We learned about Dandelion's single-origin chocolate making, and its startup roots, and we snacked our way through fresh cacao pods, roasted cocoa beans, molten chocolate, chocolate bars, and hot cocoa. A delightfully tasty day!

Book Club - March 15
This month we met virtually via Zoom and we had an excellent turnout with 12 Smithies in attendance. We had a good discussion of “The Dictionary of Lost Words,” a 2020 historical novel by Australian author Pip Williams based on true historical events surrounding the compilation of the Oxford English Dictionary, the suffrage movement for women’s voting rights, and World War I. Most of us enjoyed the book and would recommend it to others.
