When fellow IPWMAN member Woodridge was hit by an EF-3 tornado, damage was approximately three blocks wide by three miles long. Public Works Director Chris Bethel commented, “You really can’t imagine something like this until it happens to you.”

IPWMAN members descended on the affected areas for six days. More than 300 trees had been lost, generating over 10,000 cubic yards in woodchips.

New responder wristbands to debut at Annual Conference!
MABAS will be bringing a new wristband system to the conference to show how the system would work during an activation. Each day conference attendees will check in as if they were checking in for a disaster response and then check out as if they were leaving the response site.

IPSI scholarship winners announced
Congratulation to Maxwell Gieb and Michele Lopez, the first two recipients of the annual IPWMAN scholarships to attend IPSI training. Maxwell is Utilities Superintendent for the Village of Lincolnshire and has worked in the utility trades for 15 plus years. He also served in the U.S. Army for four years as an engineer. Lopez is Administrative Supervisor for the Village of Carol Stream Public Works Department. She began working as a part-time secretary at the Village, then left to work full time for the City of Wheaton. She rejoined the Village of Carol Stream eight years ago and enjoys using the knowledge she has gained to better serve residents.

Mark Runyon, Village of Oswego, welcomed attendees during IPSI training in July.

Barb Stiehl, City of Urbana, and Mark Doerfler, Wauponsee Township, presented at a Lunch ‘n Learn for Township Officials of Illinois, an IDOT training session for highway commissioners and a meeting with representatives from DuPage County.
