Greetings from the Executive Director
Dear Friends,
Here in the United States, election season came to its end. But this did not settle the deep political divisions across the nation. Much more work remains to be done by both political leaders and communities to facilitate engagement and develop understanding. Through that process the American people will have an opportunity to synthesize new political realities, policies, and practices that better satisfy their needs and concerns. We will see if the new Administration is able to achieve that.
While watching the US elections closely, it has been a busy Fall at the Global Leadership Institute. The launch of the Northern Ireland at Boston College Leadership Series, in collaboration with the Northern Ireland Bureau, promises to spotlight the voices of leaders from Northern Ireland. We welcomed Minister Naomi Long in October, and expect to continue this series in December with more Northern Irish leading figures. Beyond the Northern Ireland at Boston College series, we heard from the US Special Envoy to Northern Ireland, Ambassador Mulvaney, on his recent mission to Dublin, Belfast, and London. In addition, Liz O’Donnell, the former Minister of State for Overseas Development and Human Rights, spoke to us on Global Crossings. Finally, we are preparing for a special collaboration with the British Consulate General in Boston to host Tom Tugendhat, MP. Tom is Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in Westminster, and he believes that “London’s most important foreign relationship is with Dublin”. I hope you can join us for that discussion on December 10.
Best,
Bob
