As the majority of you know, we had the unfortunate event of having a tree fall on our house during that hellacious January wind storm. Since then life has been a bit of a mess, from scrambling to find a new place to live, to spending hours on the phone with our insurance, and lining up contractors, engineers and architects. I am happy to say that after two months of paperwork and due diligence the demo has begun! Walking through our semi-demolished house is a little eerie to say the least (video above), but it's a welcomed sight knowing that it means we're one step closer to getting back into our house. The biggest question mark that still remains stems from one of the most unpredictable things in known existence, the weather. We can't replace the roof until we get a solid 10-14 days of no rain, which as all of you know, might just never happen. Normally a crew can re-roof a house in two days, but we have to replace all of the trusses, then sheeting, followed by new shingles. Suffice it to say I wouldn't mind if y'all crossed your fingers for us to actually get some dry weather here in the near future! The figure below outlines the different permit fees that are associated with our remodel (county jurisdiction). |
