Worship with Us this Sunday

March 12, 2023

10:00am In-person and Facebook Live or replay on Facebook later

It’s the Third Sunday of Lent. We will light our Lenten candles and continue our theme of Jesus Met and Known. We will hear the story of Moses and the complaining Israelites as they lash out at Moses about their thirst (Exodus 17:1-7). Jesus learned this story when he was growing up. How did it form and reform his faith? Jesus meets the Samaritan woman at the well. They talk about living water and Jesus’ identity (John 4:5-42).

We will sing Kyrie Eleison; Morning Has Broken; Praise to the Living God; Tawa Pano (with kid drums this week); Weave; Fill My Cup, Lord; and All Who Hunger, Gather Gladly.

If you didn’t have a chance to bring gifts of non-perishable food items last Sunday, please consider doing so this weekend. Our neighbors at Circle of Concern and Isaiah 58 thank you.

Our 2nd Mile Lent mission partners are Lydia’ House; Unleashing Potential; Heifer International; and Eden Seminary.

Please participate in worship virtually via our livestream on Facebook if that is convenient for you and/or if you have tested positive for Covid in the last 5 days.

Masks should be worn and respected for in-person worship under the following conditions:

1) You have tested positive for COVID 6-10 days ago and you still have symptoms;

2) You are in a high-risk group and/or have underlying conditions;

3) You are more comfortable wearing a mask.

In order to protect individuals and the wider community, we strongly encourage up-to-date vaccinations and boosters against all communicable diseases.

Sunday School

This winter our children are learning about some of the people who met Jesus. Most of these stories are found in the Gospel of John: Nicodemus, the Samaritan woman, the first disciples, a blind man, the little boy with fish and bread, and many more.

Youth are using a new curriculum called Feasting on the Word. This curriculum is lectionary based with activities and discussions around topics of interest to youth as they relate to scripture.

2 minutes about the history of Women’s History Month

Here’s another one about WHM that’s 7 minutes --

Humor:

Time to give something up for Lent! Last year I was playing hide and go seek with my cousin. I gave up looking. I hope she’s not still hiding.

Just heard the devastating news that Rick Astley’s given me up for lent. He said he never would.

Someone told me they were giving up coffee for Lent to channel their “natural energy" I sweetly told them “bless your heart” and grabbed my Venti Macchiato.

Inspiration

I Looked For You by Todd Jenkins

I looked for you, God,

  in the fluffy clouds

        floating through

  a heaven of blue;

and in the sun

  as it rose and sank

         in the skies

  of east and west;

but I didn’t so much

   feel or hear

    your voice to me,

 as sense your beauty

    in creation’s panorama.

It wasn’t until

    I returned to town

       and stopped by

  my neighbor’s house

    that, deep in my bones,

       I knew you were there,

    in the middle of sorrow

       as much as joy,

    in comfort as well

           as grief.

Now, I peel my eyes

    and peel my heart

      toward every story told,

  ‘cause there you are

       staring back at me,

  as grace and love o’erflow.

Galatians 6:2 Bear one another’s

burdens, and in this way you will

fulfill the law of Christ.
