Support the Middle School DEI Council!

We are proud that two of our middle school students, Sienna Robinson & Rose Brennan-Wilkinson, were selected to attend the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities' Middle School Summit earlier this spring.

Since attending the Summit, Sienna & Rose have been working with Ms. Wynn and Ms. Young to establish Peabody's first Middle School DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) Council.

As this school year winds down, the DEI Council is inviting families to support our continuing effort to add more diverse voices to our library collection. To donate a book:
2) Search for "Peabody School"
3) Click "Shop Now"
4) Click "School Wish Lists" (in the top blue bar)
5) Select and purchase any books from the "DEI Council List 2022"

Books can be shipped directly to Peabody School (please include a gift note so we know who it is from) or you can bring the book into school after it is shipped to you directly. Donations should go to Mary Beth Perry with a note indicating "DEI Council List" -- we'll include a "donated by" bookplate with your name! Thank you for your support of this wonderful project!

Peabody’s Field Day and the Bigger Picture Around It

Last Friday at Peabody, the air was filled with everything from the shrieks of relay-racing children to the caterwauling of karaoke-ing teachers, as students, faculty, staff, and a team of intrepid parent volunteers came together to enjoy the school’s annual Field Day event. Orchestrated by Peabody’s P.E. teacher, Jason Fargo, and executed largely by twenty parent volunteers, the day’s activities included marathon games of swamp ball and wiffleball, three-legged and balloon relays, frisbee challenges, obstacle courses, and yes, a karaoke machine (If you have a middle-schooler in your household, try asking them the name of the artist who sings Ghostbusters).

On its surface a day of light-hearted, old-fashioned fun, this year’s Field Day also marked the culmination of an entire month of intentional and interdisciplinary programming designed to highlight and promote the health and well-being of “the whole child.” Throughout the month, Coach Fargo guided students through the process of identifying, setting, and pursuing attainable personal fitness goals, while Nurse Tara visited classrooms to offer lessons on good nutrition and tips for finding ways to actually enjoy some of those healthy foods that we might ordinarily try slipping to the dog waiting under the dinner table. Meanwhile, Ms. Jones continued her great and important work teaching about and supporting the social-emotional welfare of our young people, and together with Mr. Anderson has guided our re-meshing community of students through a second session of the buddies program, cultivating self-confidence, teamwork, communication, and stewardship along the way.

We are so grateful to Coach Fargo and all of the parent volunteers who helped make Field Day such a spirited success, and the entire team of faculty and staff who work so thoughtfully not only to challenge Peabody’s students intellectually and academically, but to also support their well-being and growth socially, emotionally, physically, and nutritionally.
Concert Videos

Important announcement regarding end-of-year concerts: This year, instead of the traditional end-of-year music concerts, each music performance class from Kindergarten to 8th grade will be filming 1-3 songs they have been working on throughout the course of the year. These videos will be compiled into a "Peabody School Concert" video, much like this year's Talent Show. These will only be distributed to Peabody families and be available for a short amount of time. Please let Ms. Colleen know if you DO NOT want your child's image included in one of these videos. Thank You!
