ILWA Update 8/24/2020
Indian Lake Closed on Tuesday, August 25th for Treatment

The City of Worcester Department of Public Works & Parks has contracted for the application of copper sulfate to Indian Lake on Tuesday, August 25th, 2020. We advise all persons to stay out of the water, discontinue boat use and fishing and keep their pets out of the water on this day. Beaches will be posted prior to the application. It is planned to reopen the lake the following day.

Copper sulfate is a safe and effective way to control the growth of harmful, toxin-producing algae. The application of copper sulfate is a common practice to maintain a healthy lake and poses minimal risk to humans and animals after application is complete. The application is coordinated with the Indian Lake and has been approved by the Worcester Conservation Commission.
Boating Safely

The state of Massachusetts is one of only 14 states that do not require boat or personal watercraft operators to attend boater education or pass a license exam.

Are you familiar with the Massachusetts Boating Laws? Below is a link to an easy to read summary for your information.

Did you know? Boats must not operate at greater than headway speed (6 mph or less) within 150 feet of a swimmer, waterskier, boat launch, or when the operator's vision is obscured in any way.

There will be a floating buoy installed this week near the boat ramp to remind boat and personal watercraft operators of the 'no wake' area near the boat ramp.

Thank you to the Department of Public Works & Parks, Parks Division, for covering the cost of this important purchase.
Divers Return this week!

Keep an eye out this week for the scuba divers! We are excited that the City of Worcester has embraced Diver Assisted Suction Harvesting (DASH) again this year at Indian Lake. This is a manual method for removing invasive aquatic plants by the root for a more permanent reduction in plant density without the use of chemicals.

We hope to have some photos soon!

WPD Indian Lake Neighborhood Meeting

The Indian Lake Neighborhood Meeting meets monthly. At every meeting we receive an update on the neighborhood crime statistics from Worcester Police Officer Lisa Carlson. This meeting also encompasses quality of life issues in the neighborhood such as missing street signs, graffiti, illegal dumping, pot holes, abandoned vehicles, abandoned houses, etc. The meeting is typically attended by a City of Worcester Code Enforcement representative who is also available to answer questions about city ordinances.

Next meeting: Wednesday, September 16th at 6pm (Online)

Please email diane.mohieldin@gmail.com to get the most up to date information on upcoming meetings and minutes. The minutes are also on Facebook @indianlakewatch.

When in person meetings resume, all Neighborhood Meetings are also listed on the City of Worcester website.
