Fr. John here again. This will be my last update because Fr. Joe will be back from vacation, but before I get into this Sunday’s Gospel, I asked Khoa who was discerning with our diocese and stayed with us here at SJV to write a little something before he left.
From discerner Khoa Bui: When discerning my vocation at the SVD, a religious order of missionaries, I felt strongly that God may call me to discern the diocesan priesthood. After initially getting to know the diocese of San Jose, I was referred to stay at SJV for a summer month. During my stay here, I got to know many priests, seminarians, and parishioners. In addition, I had the opportunity to shadow different priests in their lives and ministries. I felt deeply touched by the support and hospitality of the parish, Fr. Joe and Fr. John. I want to thank the SJV community, Fr. Joe, and Fr. John who have been very supportive of my discernment and staying here. I enjoy the time being here at SJV very much. I look forward to being a seminarian candidate for the Diocese of San Jose next June. Please continue praying for the vocation of the diocese and for the seminarians. Thank You.
"Do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you.” SJV has been blessed to have many seminarians here, these men have felt the call to serve in this way; working for food that endures forever. Jesus specifically says that the food he gives will endure for eternal life, and what are seminarians called to?... To bring the Word to the people, and as they are ordained as priest, they will bring not only the Word, but the Word Made Flesh... “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.” Let us continue to encourage men to the priesthood.
St John Vianney, pray for us!
Shalom,
Fr. John (parochial vicar)
