Child welfare virtual expo Sept. 23
The Capacity Building Center for the States is offering a Child Welfare Virtual Expo Sept. 23. The theme is advancing racial equity in child welfare. The expo will address the racism and bias that continue to create disproportionate representation in the child welfare system and disparities in outcomes for Black, American Indian/Alaska Native and other families of color. These inequities lead to the unnecessary separation of families, cause trauma, and continue to prevent child welfare systems from effectively supporting the safety and well-being of all the children, youth, and families they serve. Join the expo to learn, share, and strategize around individual and collective actions to prioritize child and family well-being and advance racial equity. Register here.

HHS bulletin on Child Welfare Practices to Address Racial Disproportionality & Disparity
As child welfare agencies evaluate their systems to identify where and how racial and ethnic disproportionalities and disparities are occurring, they are seeking practices that use an antiracist approach and show promise for their own populations. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services produced this bulletin to provide a brief overview of the problem of racial and ethnic disproportionality and disparity in the child welfare system. It describes practices that child welfare caseworkers, administrators, program managers, and policymakers can implement to address these issues in general and at specific decision-making points along the child welfare continuum.
